Wondering if new CPU cooler will fit?

Ive been tempted to try and put it on top of the desk as they say it gets less dust that way but ill need to try and get something to sit at the side of the desk first.

Thats true. But the air will be quite a bit warmer on your desk than it is on the floor. Particularly at this time of year. My floor is hardwood and the temp right down there is much colder than at desk height.

theres how mines sits the now.
the desk was bought to fit in a space at the old house but since moving I could get a bigger one.
carpet over concrete floors in the lounge. my pc sits in the coolest corner in the room

Thats a sweet setup. This is my fan setup now. I think it looks OK. I realise it's a negative case pressure setup but should be OK. I can clean the dust regularly.

my fans are on this set up the now. Im going to try unplugging the top fan and also switching it to an exhaust again to see if that makes a difference.
the last time I had it as an exhaust it had higher temps but at that time I had the H80i installed.

This is a bit conserning..

I just did a stress test on my new work PC and got these temps from HW monitor. It's a very roomy case with 3 120mm fans. Stock CPU cooler though. Nothing is overclocked at all. This is how it came out of the box. Is that not crazy high? or do AMD just run hotter? It's an AMD 7700K. The stress test was only running for a couple of minutes at most before I stopped it when I got the fear.

AMD machines do tend to run hotter but that is pretty scary.. what stress test did you run?

I call BS on that.

All the amd CPUs I've had have run cooler than Intel ones ( I would still take Intel over amd any day now but that's not the point )

And those temps whilst certainly high are not scary you could always change the CPU paste or clean the fins on it.

Thing is it's brand new. Last week i got it. (work ordered everyone new computers, they were buying lenovos from PC world and I begged my boss to let me get my own). She agreed and when the team ended up with i3's 4gb RAM and onboard graphics I, for the same money got a 7700k, 8GB RAM and a Nvidea GTX950. no bad I thought.

Alas I digress. The cpu came already fitted and the fans are clean. I'm hesitant to buy a new cooler for it because it would be out of my own pocket for a work computer.

most of the stuff Ive read has said AMD tend to run hotter I stand corrected..
and you do have a valid point.. my 8350 ran cooler under stress than my 4690k does..

but as for the temp on his chip being scary... acording to what I see on cpu world the max temp for that chip is 72.4c so yea I would class that as scary...

Too much positive pressure also isn't great.

Ideally you want a balance, or just slightly on the positive side; keeps the air flowing without hitting any stopgaps.

i would definitely be tidying the cables to improve air flow, cleaning the heat sync and or replacing the stock paste. The top fan on that pic ideally would be exhaust.

ive got the top fan disabled at present to see what temps I get without it

as previously said when I had the H80i in I was getting lower temps with it set as an intake

I tend to try it out at least that way I know what will work through practical testing

looking good. is that the define s case?

NZXT S340 :)
I was hoping you would pick up this thread again :)
Only thing I am going to do from here is get some blue/black 24pin / PCIE cable extensions and maybe get some custom ram heat spreaders. But as baby on the way that will have to wait. I'm happy with looks and temps now.
