Road Cycling

But not as mundane as sitting in the queues of traffic.

This! I've got the dentist today so had to drive in... There's also a local main road closure due to flooding & a nasty accident so traffic was pretty slow today... 25 minutes (I'm usually sub 20 cycling in the mornings). Home commute will be twice that! It's only 4.2 miles! :(

You might see me getting smaller and smaller in the distance! :p

Shot's fired!

Just ordered the GF her first road bike for Xmas
http://www.halfords.com/cycling/bikes/road-bikes/boardman-road-sport-womens-fi-bike

Pretty good deal for £350 really. Pick it up Thursday.

Its actually a present to myself in a way because now she cant complain when i get my new bike:D

Good deal for the Claris setup, not too dissimilar to what we got my other half on saturday for £400! What's the weight like? The Avail is noticeably heavier than my Defy 1 so probably around 10kg. Most of that is probably the wheels!

Wore my new BBB overshoes on the commute home last night, really impressed although they're thinner than my DHB Neoprene's. They're nie and bright! Sole fastenings will be good on them for wearing with boots... Need some rain to try them out in - sure that can be arranged tomorrow! ;)

Still having problems with my new Giro SPDs. No matter where I position the left cleat it seems to cause me arch pain. I've also tried arch supports of different heights, no help.

I have 3 other pairs of Giro shoes and never had a problem!:(

Im not sure how accurate the weight is but on their website it says 10.44kg shes never had a road bike before so the main thing is to get her used to the levers so she doesn't crash:D This thing should fly tho, her last bike was a weird old fashioned shopping bike with a basket Apollo, that thing must weigh close to 20kg!

Haha know what you mean, mine has an Apollo Etienne. It's horrific to ride as the position is so upright and with the front wheel being almost immediately below the bars it's very twitchy and feels very laboured when steering. But I am biased...! My other half's got on with it ok, but she has ridden it into the ground the last 3+ years! Front chainrings are warped, grip shifters don't stay in gear, headset won't stay tight and both wheel hubs are pretty much done for. I'm going to be so thankful I don't need to keep it going any longer!

The Avail has top bar brakes which should help mine transition over from flat bars as it has STI gear/brakes too. I'm very impressed by them, they're inline so no real extra cables/servicing.

changed the battery in my Garmin 800, not it wont pair up to the speed/cadence sensor

any ideas?

Worth changing the battery in the S&C too, or at least resetting it. GSC10?

What size are you? I have a set of the Planetx ones in a Medium (I'm EU42) and won't ever use them. I ordered a set of the bright BBB's and my DHB's have life in them yet. I've got a load of cycling stuff I need to flog/throw and they're one of the items I'd intended to sell! Had quite a sort out over the weekend!

I got them last February for £15. I've only worn them a couple of times (can send you pics later if you want - they're pretty much new). They're yours for a couple of quid and postage (£2.60 with MyHermes), so say £5 total?

My BBB's will survive now that the studs are removed and I'm using them for commuting + I shouldn't spend any more money on cycling! I'll give my BBB's a chance for a week and if they do still fall apart I'll take you up on them. :)

You've possibly nudged or tightened something incorrectly. If it was a phone I'd assume that your antenna was either not attached properly or had been knocked slightly out of alignment in some way.

Rode in today for the first time since I can't remember when. Really enjoyed it but my knee is reminding me I did it. Based on the symptoms I'm fairly confident I've torn my meniscus but it'll be a while before I jump though enough hoops in the NHS to find out.

Can anyone recommend a front/back light set for £10? I realise this won't give me amazingly well engineered stuff but its for about town biking that will get nicked when I forget to remove it.

Ok no worries, let me know if you do as I probably won't get around to listing stuff online (Facebook local buy/sell/cycling groups or ebay) for a week or two.

Is it something you can strap up and build stronger through some key exercises? :(

Cheapest light sets: Cateye loops £13.50 & Knog Strobe £14

Or these front & rear Lifeline ones for £5.28 each. Although to get in under your budget I know Aldi did a set for £8.99 and I think there was one even cheaper.
