4K users feedback

Pretty much what has been said. I do disagree about 24" monitors not being good for 4k gaming though. The smaller the monitor the higher the density so the better the picture. The bigger the monitor the lower the density so not quite as sharp.

However, I do agree that living with 4k day to day (IE not gaming) would be a nightmare.

I do love 4k and I do notice the difference but I wish now in hindsight that I had not gone 4k yet. As has also been said one GPU isn't enough for 4k IMO (though you can get most games running OK it's usually with sacrifice) and some games simply don't look any better.

So I kinda wish now that I'd have waited until next year when Pascal and AMD's new GPUs drop that are hopefully twice as powerful as what we have now because SLI and CFX have (again IMO) died on their backsides recently.

It is nice, image is crisper, sharper. but you will certainly feel the downgrade to 60fps. That's why I prefer my swift over 60hz 4k anyday. Can't stand 60hz, 100 is my limit with a mouse now after having 144-165hz for a while.

1440p is still nice but yes for eye candy 4k is very nice. I'm just waiting for 144hz 4k ;).

I went from 120hz down to 60hz (4K) on the middle of my BF4 fetish and I could hardly get a kill for a week, after this your eyes seem to tune in, I've then gone from 60 to 100 and my god it feels good again, I can see why people swear by 120/144 over the crispness of 4k.

well
Here is a list of Monitors i have at the moment

ROG Swift 27" - Don't find it that Sharp at all. irts very clear but not GOD thats crisp!

DELL 2913WM - Not sharp at all but wide angle is nice/pain in the bum.

SAMSUNG SA950D 27" 120hz panel - is pretty good, 1080p though

DELL 21" x2 1080 - This thing is sharp as heel & love it. 21" 1080p is awesome.

SAMSUNG 30STPLUS - 30" 1600p - love this thing. 30" is a bit large at first but its great size specially the 1600p but i did have to move my head side to side to see everything.

Im heavily tempted by the ROG Swift 27" 4K, After maths that's 43% more pixels in the same space. it might give me the same Sharp feeling the 1080p does.

would even match my 1440p too, be a shame to waste a second screen as a rog swift 144hz though :D:p

If by "same sharp feeling" you mean squinting to read things, then yeah :P
Definitely need to use scaling at that size. Though I do miss my 28" Samsung 4k, but not enough to leave my XR34 :D

The single biggest visual improvement you can make for up-close gaming is PPI (for couch gaming it doesn't matter), not resolution. Best of all - doesn't cost you any performance extra. You can test this very easily if your monitor allows you to by testing games at different resolutions & screen size. E.g. I noticed the biggest difference when I was switching between 32'' 1440p to 32'' 1280x1024 to 24'' (16:10) 1280x1024. Honestly, the visual quality difference between 32'' 1440p and 24'' 1024p was ridiculously low. Changed my perspective entirely.

I don't use scaling with my 28" 4K. The only reason though is that support is still a bit lackluster even in Windows 10 (multiple monitors - non 4K ones look terrible)
I tend to read stuff on the 27" 1440p screen though as I will tend to lean in towards the screen otherwise.

If I could sell up I would try that 40" Philips screen :p

For WoW and W3... you will love it.

For BF4... you will hate it.

To whomever said the Philips is the best 4k monitor... no, not it is not.

40" is obtrusively large for many people. The pixel size for a 40" 4k monitor is only the same as 4x 20" 1080p monitors stuck together... that's hardly an upgrade... that's just 4 monitors stuck together without a bezel.

27"/28" 4k at 100% scaling would probably be a bit too small for most people.

31.5"/32" 4k is perfect for me because it's the same pixel size as 4x 15.6" 1080p monitors (ie, laptop 1080p)... which is the perfect pixel size for me.

Just remember... going from 144Hz to 60Hz in an FPS game like BF4 will be instantly noticable, unpleasant and have a negative effect on your KDR.

I have the Swift next to my 31.5" 4k monitor... I use the 4k for most things... but BF4 and SW: Battlefront are solely used on the Swift. I tried them on 4k and enjoyed the detail/colours/etc... but the refresh rate and response time of the Swift is a league ahead for playing FPS games.

If you can run both next to each other... go for it.

Completely agree.
I dropped from a 120hz down to a 4k 60hz took me over a week to actually get remotely near to my 120hz skills, I couldn't believe the difference it made, now I've gone back up to 100 and the difference is night and day.

I have the Philips 40" 4k but find myself playing in ultrawide 1607p in majority of games, the extra FoV is more impressive to me than extra pixels.
I agree that MMO's are better in full screen though, feels very unnatural for me with all the hud icons in anything less.
I use 4k for productivity in things like 3dsmax etc

some of us dont have that problem as we are bad no matter what the hz.

lol

Yeah, maybe some people feel their phone battery lasts too long...

*shrug*... batteries will continue to improve. Better IQ is better IQ... you can still tell the difference. There will come a point though, when top resolution will no longer be distinguishable... but we can go further than 4k :D

4k can be rubbish, remember that!

Buy a top of the range 4k large screen tv 50"+ and you will begin to reach a level where 4k becomes enjoyable, practical and useful but you'll need a huge deep desk and a nice reclining chair to pc game.
