Age old Question - Which order to watch Star Wars!

Slight necro-post, but I'm interested in this too. I have only seen the original eps 4, 5, 6 back in the 1980s. I guess having only seen 456, 30-odd years ago (so can't remember plots etc very well), I should watch them as 456-123?

Can someone please explain what machete order mean, and what does despecialised mean?

Which boxset should I buy?

Watch 4,5,6. :)

Sadly watching the original trilogy as the films were released back in the day is proving difficult. The last release of the original trilogy 'unadulterated' was a limited DVD release back in 2006.

Following the release of the Phantom Menace, George Lucas felt it appropriate to up date his original trilogy (4,5,6) with rubbish CGI effects to coincide with the technology used for his latest films so they were deemed seamless.

For original fans who grew up with the original trilogy, the CGI parts spoil the original films, since they stick out like a sore thumb nor add material substance to the plot.

There is a lot of fans lobbying for the original films to be released on Blu-Ray in their original form. For now, Despecialised is a fan edit of the original Star Wars trilogy (4,5,6,) using the Blu-Ray copies but editing out the rubbish effects above. There are many changes to improve the picture with the aim to deliver the best version of the films as they were when they were theatrically released.

If you are not a purist and fancy watching Star Wars, watch the original trilogy followed by the later versions. The plot for the latter films in my view is nonsense and conflicts with the originals!

I wish I had never bothered to watch (think Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull).

I recently watched the 'Machete' order, e.g. 4-5-2-3-6 and it worked really well imo, although never been the biggest star wars fan so neither amazing nor terrible.

It also made the updated CGI scene at the end of 6 'make sense', at least a little bit, having HC there.

My order:

4, 5, [Optional 2, 3] 6.

Not Recommended: 1, Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure, Ewoks: The Battle for Endor

Thanks for posting this.

I'm nearly tempted to watch it. Never watched a whole film of any of them.

If watching the Machete order, what is the earlier point I can bail if I don't like it, after the first movie?

Just watched them all with my little guy. We did 4,5,6,1,2,3. He enjoyed them all, but the PT definitely held his attention more than the OT. He thought Jar Jar was awesome, of course. Should I put him up for adoption? :o

How old are we talking here?

You should go 4,5,6 then 1,2,3 and then 4,5, 6 again. You get the reveal of Empire and the rise of Luke, follow it up with Vader backstory and then see all the connecting lines that you missed the first time around in 4, 5 and 6.
