ISIL, ISIS, Daesh discussion thread.

Only read the last few pages so apologies if I've missed this.
Did Russia tell us to keep out of this or is that just propoganda to?
Also is it true that it's U.S. and us on one side and Russia China on the other? And if so how will that play out ?

Not sure where you heard that about Russia, but no its not true. Russia is more interested in shoring up Assad before the negotiations start, but i would be interested to see whether our bombing relieves some pressure on the rebels and lets them move troops to fight the Iranians.

As to sides, its complicated. But basically Assad is fighting the rebels with Iranian and hezbollah help. The rebels are fighting ISIS and Assad. The russians support Assad by bombing the rebels and occasionally bombing ISIS. The americans bomb ISIS and provide non military support to non extremist rebels. The coalition we are joining bombs ISIS in Iraq and now in Syria.

Thanks devlish, I know it's complicated over there. Just didnt know if it was going to kick off between Russia , China and us

We aren't so moot point.
And a silly statement, did we bomb the idea if Nazism in ww2? No we bombed Infrastructure, resources and people and Nazism is still alive and well today, just pushed to the extreme fringes where for the most part its not an issue.
You kill their ability to wage war, capture new land etc, you can never kill an idea and never have been able to.

Over 10 million men invaded Germany in WW2 that's how the war was won against them & exactly what won't happen against Daesh.

Fun fact. A fair chunk of those 70 or so hostages rescued by US Special Forces and Kurdish fighters from that IS controlled prison in Iraq were IS fighters accused of spying, yet had done nothing of the sort.

they're going to be constantly paranoid about spying - they don't know whether some drone strike that killed another high up leader etc... was the result of an informant or someone intercepting their comms or just an opportunistic strike that got a result

I assume the pistol would be to take their own life rather than endure any possible consequences of being captured.

Oh great, so we're sending pilots into a theatre where we expect them to commit suicide if at risk of capture? :(

And people are cheering last nights vote result? Sick *******s!

It's a completely different enemy to Nazi Germany. That really should not need pointing out.
