Someone locked their bike to mine but all I had to do was walk 6 miles (3 part way home, 3 back) as they called me to let me know they'd unlocked it :p

Ahhh knew it was something like that, as you waited around a while for them before giving up didn't you?

My bike has developed a click, I thought it was QR or derailleur hanger as I know my hanger screws have worked loose previously. I rounded the head on one of them again last night (done this 3 times now, I'm out of spare screws!). They seem to be made of cheese...! I refitted the hanger with carbon grip (and a good clean) last night and had to cut a slot in the 1 screw. It doesn't budge now but I still have a click...

It's not when I'm putting power down, no pattern or frequency I can determine. I'm going to tighten my headset to rule that out... My next target is wheels (loose spoke/valve washer) followed by BB.

When it 'clicks'/'ticks' I can feel it through my pedals/crank arms. Would this be a symptom of BB bearings? Bike is almost a year old! (& 3k miles)

all clicks and ticks sound like they are coming from the bottom bracket area.

check the seatpost, both the frame bolt and the bolts at the top.

I am loving zwift. I am not loving how it works on hills on a dumb trainer.
Should I just buy a smart trainer and be done with it?

All checked already! I've had this several times before so quite aware of phantom BB noises! Previously had: spokes (loose), stem (grit/dirt), stem bolt loose (number of times), pedal (dirt in thread), BB wavy washer (grit/dirt), BB loose pedal & saddle creak! I've nearly had them all! :D

All a smart trainer does is increase the resistance... Worth seeing if you can try one somewhere! Look for any LBS with 'open evenings' showing off new kit. I know one of mine had one to show off pioneer power meters and they had Tacx smart trainers setup too! I didn't go along as it was a worknight... :(

I tried to get University security to cut through the guy's lock but they were having none of it sadly. I just left a note and then walked home.

Haha fair enough! That's why I mentioned calling the local PD - at least then if someone calls up and reports a 'bike thief' cutting through a lock in the same location you shouldn't get arrested! :D Although wouldn't put anything past them...

Shimano Action Sport camera Cm-1000 down from £220 to £95 on Canyon deal.

So now my gf has her new bike she want 'grippy tyres and mudguards like yours' :D

2x Continental GP 4Season £64, Raceblade Long V2 £40. I can see these being Christmas presents as doubt she'll want to spend another £100! ;)

Edit: Though Rose would be the way forwards - german tyres & mudguards. They are for price (£17 saved) but 6-8 week leadtime on both!

What other grippy & durable 700x25mm tyres should I be looking at? Durano? Marathon Plus?

Edit: These look good for the really wet days - extra long gaiter's that go over your shoes up to your knees. Like an extended overshoe, but are just waterproof, not insulating. Only £15...

jeez! is there a proper waterproof over-shoe or not? BBB hardwear are crap, says waterproof etc but my feet are still soaked! :|

I'm getting frustrated now.. will be my 4th pair of over-shoes can you recommend me something that will be waterproof ? and with a zip/band on top to keep the water out

Proper winter shoes + leggings that have a little cuff thing to go over the top (or a way to make the leggings go over the top). Only way.

Where's the water getting in? Not on the sole vents or something silly, is it? I'm going to tape over mine.

Yeah, my BB needed regreasing as it started clicking/creaking when I was pedalling, either softly or with power.

Definitely worth checking the grease after 3k miles. :D

I would stick the 4 seasons Roady. Marathon Plus's would give better puncture protection, but would be harsher comfort wise. I love my GP 4 Seasons, only 1 puncture this year (famous last words)!

To be honest the overshoes I've tried (DHB/PX/BBB) are all the same - a Neoprene or Neoprene-like material which isn't waterproof. It actually soaks up an amount of water, but doesn't get 'sodden' retaining heat. The BBB's are thinner and have a coating on them so they soak up less, but the internal is still damp.

The problem we have is usually the top isn't that tight, as it cannot be watertight (without causing problems), so there is always some 'run-off' from our clothes. The things I linked earlier are something I've thought of for a while, they're similar to the kind used by hikers/mountaineers/trail runners.

Proper winter shoes + leggings that have a little cuff thing to go over the top (or a way to make the leggings go over the top). Only way.

Winter shoes/boots don't totally solve the problem. The Northwave Celsius are not totally waterproof (can 100% confirm this), nor are the Sidi Hydro's I also have (not used them yet, may go stand in a deep puddle sometime if you want me to...? :p ).

I've had my water-resistant leggings (Sportful NoRain knee/arm warmers) over the top and they do a good job of stopping spray. Although they are not waterproof and will soak up water (after a good 5-10 minutes of constant rain) leading back to the same problem (ingress from top).

One thing which springs to mind - when we're riding in proper rain the humidity of the ambient air is so much that everything protected from the rain itself still picks up moisture. It's in the air and dare I say it - we produce more of our own moisture when the ambient air is also moist, especially as we're wearing more less breathable layers.

The Sportful Fiandre NoRain bib-shorts I own have a neat rubber-ish strip around the legs, this fits close to skin and feels very waterproof (and totally not breathable!), a leg/overshoe gaiter with something like this at the top would be ideal for limiting the amount of water which can get in the top. Side note: I had wet soles of my feet ages ago with my cheapy shimano shoes, it lined up with the cleat hole. When I had my cleats right I filled the rest of the hole up with a hot-glue gun which seemed to solve it.

Edit: Anyone tried Gripgrab Orca's (Polyester), Northwave H2O's (Rubber), Castelli Nano's (mostly Nylon/Polyurethane) or Gripgrab Aqua's (Same as Nano's)?

I've been regreasing mine every 6-8 weeks anyway as part of my full service I do, it's easy when you know how! But as mine is a push-fit I've not been cleaning out my bearings as I don't have the tools to replace them, just wipe off and re-grease around them. I'm going to do it later and if that (+headset) doesn't solve it, off to the LBS I go (and fingers crossed it'll be sorted before Saturday mornings Winter Challenge ride!).

I'm really happy with mine, I have some GP4000S II's to put on next spring too! I'm really happy with Continental now and probably won't go back to Mitchelin... But for the other half, speed isn't really what she needs as 90% of her miles will be her short 4 mile inner-city commute. Protection and cost will be the determining factors! Will probably hold off in case of some Christmas deals on them or similar. I'm not adverse to changing to my GP4000's and fitting the 4Seasons to hers as it'll save ~£60 at the end of the day. But winter might be coming this year and then I'll have no spares of my own! Maybe the 4000's will come up on a deal as they tend to be in stock more than the 4Seasons...! ;)

For bitch-locking, I'm afraid I'm of the opinion that I'm coming straight back with my grinder and the lock is coming off. Not prepared to take the risk.

I've been ordering most stuff from bike24 now, fairly quick delivery and usually cheaper. Hutchinson Sector 28's are £36 so almost normal premium prices compared to £40+ from UK suppliers.

For comfort you can't beat proper 28mm+ tyres. The GP4s are really small 28mms, they measure about 26-27mm on the rim but tyres like the Schwalbe One are large 28's more like 29mm on the rim. Deffo more comfort in them.

Really struggling to find a rack that will fit the Equilibrium 10 disc frame. It's pretty weird, the version I have has mounts much higher up and further forward than the other models from the same year.

2015 EQ 10 disc mount points

2015 EQ 30 mount points

2016 EQ 10 mount points

The Eq 30 version is much better position than the 10 and the 2016 bikes even better again. With my Eq 10 frame the racks are always too far forward and pretty high up.

It didn't work, stripped out BB/cranks, regreased and refitted. Same with headset. Really feels/sounds like grit in a BB bearing as it's more of a 'snappy grind' than a 'click'. LBS later! :(

Good shout about bike24, they seem to have stock too although prices are not any better than Wiggle/CRC/Rose on the 4Seasons! Although these are only 25mm as can't go larger on the frames we're using. Shame they don't seem to stock much SKS stuff and no Raceblade Longs so I'll try to get the whole lot elsewhere instead.
