*** The Official Elite: Dangerous Thread ***

Planetary landings, they take significantly more grunt than anything currently in game.

Yep, I have mine capped to 144 and it sits there all the time roughly but fly down to a planet and I can hit 60 fps or under at times. The planets do look sweet though in fairness, which is quite remarkable seeing as they are mainly just dust planets.

Official release date of the 15th of December for horizons :)
Crimony... I'd better get some more time in with my Corvette, while I still have one I can afford!! :)

i dont know why they put this out, only a very few of current players have that sort of spec and unless they want to ramp up graphical quality massively - and its already great - how can they have this as minimum?
Thanks to Chris Roberts, games toting massive specs in an effort to 'drive progress in PC development' seems to be the in-thing...
It's all good and well in theory, but falls flat when almost no-one can afford the kit to run the game... With some of this stuff I start to suspect even Kapstaad with his 16-GPU rig might struggle!! :D

I don't actually think Kaapstad plays games. If it has a benchmark, he plays those :D

So, Horizons players, I'm still not sold on this yet, what can, or do, you gain from being able to drive about on planets?

Does anyone use Thrustmaster T.A.R.G.E.T software?

I just got a flightstick & tried loading the elite dangerous profile into T.A.R.G.E.T but it doesn't seem to work too well (seems TARGET is a keyboard driver hook?)
I am questioning whether it is even worth using or not

I load the profile & then run elite but doesn't seem to work

Might just uninstall it as it seems ok with just the base drivers

I have xmas off work from the 17th - pretty good timing ;)

I had a very nice Polish Lorry driver park his Hazardous lorry in my tugmaster whilst I was at work last week, so looks like I have more time off than planned. Back to work on the 30th I assume if all goes well.

I have to ask, just what use is the 'Open Play' option if you have to log off and then log back in to 'Solo' mode each and every time you want to dock at a station/outpost?

Not once have I ever been able to dock in the open play mode. It's hardly conducive to immersion.

Well worth £30 in my opinion. Also as someone has stated bang on the nose 52 weeks. ;)

I like FD they are up front and deliver, not like the other snake oilers like EA and Ubi.

It's only an issue in the systems directly around where new starters are spawned and maybe a few other very popular systems, I do wish they would add a proper queuing system though as it's nothing but frustration when you end up needing spam the docking request option or are forced out to solo mode.

I've gone out to ~45LY away from where I started and I'm still getting docking requests refused. Guess I'll try going a bit further out.

Quick question if I was to buy this from Frontier's store, I can activate it on Steam right?

Or is that not the case.

Also I'm struggling to see where it says there's a discount on Horizon if you buy it from their store, some of my mates say it's there yet I can't see the writing.

Yeh, it could just be busier than I recall, it's been a while since I've been anywhere near the starter systems :)

You can indeed get a steam key, there is the option in your account page in the FD store, it still uses the launcher though so I really don't see why anybody really needs to.

The discount is only available if you already own Elite, it gets deducted at checkout.

So it's tied to your ED account? Not based on if you buy ED from their store or steam.

So if I bought ED from Steam, but then ordered Horizons from their store, I would still get the discount?
