*** The Official Elite: Dangerous Thread ***

So it's tied to your ED account? Not based on if you buy ED from their store or steam.

So if I bought ED from Steam, but then ordered Horizons from their store, I would still get the discount?

I believe so, not sure why you would though, just buy Horizons, you'll have access immediately :)

So, Horizons players, I'm still not sold on this yet, what can, or do, you gain from being able to drive about on planets?

From just a couple hours play-testing:
- Another 400 Billion-odd additional areas to play in
- Ground combat
- Ground vs Air combat
- Aerial raids on ground targets
- Highly variable atmospheric flight and mavity challenges
- A completely new dimension to mining, exploring, scavenging, piracy and all that.
- A pretty blank slate upon which to build worlds, from terraforming to construction, shipping supplies, defending/attacking and so on.

Plus it's even more fun playing with friends!!
It's looking very much like doing everything EVE: Online is about, but doing it yourself while immersed within your own cockpit, rather than just watching it happen from outside after a few mouse clicks.

I'm so lost, it's too late for my brain to work.

Sorry for asking this.

By buying ED:Horizons, does it come with the base game ED as well?

Yes, the only thing you will not get access to is the Cobra MKIV, you will get everything else.

So the teraforming side of it, could you in theory go flying off waaaay out into the middle of no where and start to build your own colony then for instance, if thats possible then its certainly something that would be worth the additional funds..

No, you cannot build your own colony.

I have to ask, just what use is the 'Open Play' option if you have to log off and then log back in to 'Solo' mode each and every time you want to dock at a station/outpost?

Not once have I ever been able to dock in the open play mode. It's hardly conducive to immersion.

I have the opposite experience never been interdicted by a human player in open or been attacked by a human player at stations. Im at George Lucas which is supposed to be one of the busiest. Im always in open.

Got my dk2 configured in the rift again very smooth. 0.5 with latest nvidia drivers. I have adaptive sync on might change that because sometimes the fps drops below 75. It copes quite well even though it drops below that not really much judder at all. x1.5 nvidia dsr I was only out for a test flight though...got interdicted by an npc...submitted to it and it was a mostly harmless cobra lol. I guess my paranoia was expecting a wing of anacondas or fer-de-lances but then i assume i wouldnt even have time to id them before id be blown to dust. :D

One thing at the moment i hope i can get a fix for. It is extremely dark in my ship...where the hell is the damn IN SHIP lights? I got lights on the outside but what about the inside? Outside is space so its dark np lol but i would like a little bit of light inside to see my trusty ship..otherwise im just looking at my green UI all the time lol

Couple more shots from the beta, spending so much time just messing around lol :)

Random icy world on my way back from Betelguese.

I hate waking up early, hours before the alarm is set.

So I have a couple of hours to kill before setting out to work. Am I correct in thinking that if I want to change my CMDR's name I will have to delete my current one and start again? Or is their a way to have two characters that I'm not aware off?

Starting over is no big deal, it's not like I have loads of ships and a vast fortune. I have one, a Cobra, and about 500k in credits which could be earned back in no time at all.

Have just gone and pulled the trigger on the Horizons Pre-Order......few quick questions...

1 - How much of my life am I going to loose now?
2 - Will be X65F Pro be useful in this?
3 - Will I now be able to jump straight in and start on vanilla ED having purchased Horizons?
4 - Steep learning curve?
5 - Any other advice / tips / pointers / help?

The only way is to delete your save in the main menu.

1. If you get into it, lots.
2. Any HOTAS is very useful.
3. Yes.
4. Depends, played elite before? Flight sims? If no then very steep, otherwise you have a distinct advantage.
5. This thread from the start + ask away for specifics :-)

1 - How much of my life am I going to loose now? - lots
2 - Will be X65F Pro be useful in this? yes, very much so
3 - Will I now be able to jump straight in and start on vanilla ED having purchased Horizons? yes
4 - Steep learning curve? yes (reasonable learning curve)
5 - Any other advice / tips / pointers / help?

  • do not rush to get new ship
  • always fly with enough cash to cover your insurance, or you will end up with nothing back in a sidewinder
  • if trading, trade rares early on, its a big money earner
  • taking missions early on, take ones that give you cargo to haul

3 - Excellent...thats sunday sorted
4 - Never played Elite, but have several hundred hours in on flight sims (combat and commercial)
5 - That is a whole load of reading to be had there......am going to like this I feel.....cheers all

You would really think most outposts would have an 'ATC' (STC?) or automated queuing system of some sort. I think it's something they should certainly implement. Can't say I've had huge bother but some stations it's a long wait.

Its normally players going AFK while on the pad, happens quite often on the large pad as there is only one of them. I normally rage for a while at them then drop to solo if no response :D

I love elite but there is absolutely no comparison between the two when it comes to player interactions. Elite is missing even basic stuff such as bounty and mission sharing. Maybe in 10 years and after many expansions focusing on player interactions it might come close to what Eve is today.

But everyone you come across in EVE is a arse. At least on 4 or 5 times i tried to get into it. The player base is disgusting.
