Hi all,

Looking for some help on overclocking my Pentium K. I managed to overclock it manually at 4.4GHz 1.25V. Although anything higher just crashes. Issue is surely not with temps, as it gets 59C with current OC on Prime95 and Intel Burn Test for 2h.
Spec:
MSI Z97 Gaming 9 AC BIOS V1.0B1
Intel G3258 4.4GHz @1.25v
Corsair Vengeance Pro Red 4x4GB @1333MHz
Corsair CX750M 80+ Bronze
MSI GTX980 4G Gaming
Custom water cooling on CPU and GPU.
Couple of SSDs and HDDs
Creative Sound Blaster Z

Also I am not sure of settings in BIOS. There are things like:
CPU Ring Voltage, VCCIN voltage, Ring Ratio, CPU Core/Ring/GT Voltage Mode, CPU SA/IOA/IOD Voltage mode, CPU SA voltage, CPU IO Analog Voltage, CPU IO Digital Voltage, CPU IOA/IOD Voltage Boos. Which do I really need to bother about?!

Thanks.

That is a good overclock to be perfectly honest. :p

What speed are you aiming for, and with what VCORE/Core/CPU voltage?

Hey

Thanks for quick answer.
I aim at 4.6GHz at least. Don't know of what voltage, surely below 1.35V (as according to friend, it's safe spot).
I am complete noob with OCing (this is my first ever K CPU, but only thanks to a friend, else I'd be stuck with 4670T). So as I am complete noob, I ask for help :D

And current OC is kind of automatic, as I used OC Genie (MSI's 1-touch OC) and it got me 4.3GHz at 1.25V so I increased it myself to 4.4GHz and runs stable. Anything higher (4.5+) will BSOD either before desktop loads, or after Cinebench finish tests. And adding more voltage seems to fail a bit; I mean, I don't know if 1.28V for 4.6GHz is too much, or not enough.. Can't tell!

[Edit] Ah and I tried to ask 8Pack about this (especially had hope for help as I met him) but seems he just ignores anything that is not i7 :(

Well... A 4670T is a better CPU for lots of things but... :p

Does it work with 1.28V? If not try 1.3V. :)

I still got that 4670T sitting on a shelf. But wanted to learn a bit of OCing before I get i7K in Jan/Feb. So yet again, friend sent me this Pentium K to play with. He runs a quite big shop in Poland ;)

Isn't prime 95 generally considered a bad idea? As it pushes your cpu way beyond any normal circumstances and can kill your chip.

It can cause modern multi cored and heavily threaded cpu's to pull and unusually large amount of power through the motherboard, more than any realistic usage scenario would entail. Most people use realbench or something similar now

4.5 at 1.3 is a good overclock for the G3258, getting it any lower would really depend on your chip.

You should be able to push it further on a Z97, a good mark to aim for is 4.6GHz at 1.35v or below, but they can handle more if you need it to. As long as your temps look good you should be fine pushing the VCORE up to 1.4v.

Thanks guys for advise there! No more P95 :D
Is 1.4 safe? Friend told me that above 1.35 the silicon might start to melt.. :(

As long as temps are decent it's fine. I'm running at 4.9Ghz 1.44v.

Not sure if brave, stupid or lucky(no offense intended).. Will see if that 4.6 will work fine under anything else but p95

I really dont like the fact that you never know if it is too much Voltage or not enough!

What temps you got there under gaming conditions?
