Hey guys,

I have been thinking to upgrade my cooler and would like some advise if it is worth it.
Currently I have a Gelid Tranquillo rv2:

The fan died on it and I know I probably should get a new fan but I have been in two minds to upgrade my cooler anyway and I think this may be a sign haha.

My current clock is 4.2ghz and I'm happy with it but maybe push for 4.5ghz soon. So out of these 4 coolers which one would you choose?

I'm really liking the look of the second Phantek cooler at the moment. I want to make sure if I do buy a new cooler it will be an upgrade from my current one so your guys opinions will help as I don't know much about air cooling.

Budget: Around £40

Im open to other suggestions too :)

What Klunt said. While not the very best, the TRUE Spirit 140 rev. A or TRUE Spirit 140 Power are both very good. At a little over £40 are hard to beat. Another often overlooked cooler is the SilverStone HE01 for about £45

Thanks for the suggestions. I will take a look at the thermalright.
Im staying away fro noctua because it wouldnt fit my colour scheme of my rig and would just look too ugly :(

If you really what more performance out of a TRUE Spirit 140 get the Power version and use a TY-143 fan instead of the TY-147. Assuming you improve case airflow to keep up with the 130cfm TY-143 can move you can see even better temps with same noise levels up to 1300rpm

Thermalright makes very good coolers. Quiet and efficient. Macho (Rev B) or True SPirit 140 (Power).

Matterhorn Pure Black looks good, good performance and cheap.

I use a Dark Rock 3 (non-pro). Very quiet, and good cooling, and looks great. Like an up-market Matterhorn, with slightly better everything (noise, looks, temps).

I'm aiming more for noise than pure performance though. Aiming at mid-range OC (4.4GHz).

Then the TRUE Spirit 140 Power or Macho would be my choice. Performance like NH-D14 and slightly quieter. D14 performance is legendary. With same fans as D15 it performs as good or slightly better than D15.

Matterhorn Black is also good, but not as good as TRUE Spirit 140 or Macho, and definitely not as quiet.. The TRUE Spirit 140 Power comes with TY-147 black and white fan idles at 550-600rpm, not 800rpm. The TY-140 in grey & tan colours was replace with TY-147 a few years back. Same fan, different colours.

Do keep in mind TRUE Spirit 140 Power is a rather wide and tall cooler (155mm wide and 171mm tall)

TRUE Spirit 140 rev.A cools the same, Has TY-147A 300-1300rpm fan and has same cooling, but fin pack is offset for better PCIe clearance and not as tall. It is 69mm center CPU toward PCIe socket and 165mm tall.

Well I'm convinced to get the Thermalright at the moment.
Found out my Phantek Pro M clearance of CPU cooler is 194 mm (7.6 in). I also know it can fit the Phantek tc14pe.
I do use my PCIe socket as well as it has my sound card, and its the only one. My Gelid tranquilo is about 1cm clearance :(

EDIT: @doyll what do you mean that fin pack is offset for better PCIe clearance?

This:

Notice the TRUE Spirit 140 Power is 77.5mm center CPU towared PCIe socket with CPU centered under the fins while the TRUE Spirit 140 Rev. A is 69mm center CPU towared PCIe socket with heatpipes and fins offset over the base so the left side of fin pack is closer to CPU / farther away from PCIe socket.

Edit: I think Tranquillo is 125mm wide, meaning 62.5mm center CPU toward PCIe socket.
Sorry it is small. If you have problems let me know and I can put up bigger image. This is what I have in cyberworld image host site, but I have larger drawings on computer. Problem is OcUK does not host images and I normally upload to forums direct from computer, not for host site.

@doyll, thats great help! Image is fine, I can zoom into it :)
I understand what you mean now, clearly shows it on the image. The True power is identical on both sides whilst the Spirit Rev A isnt. They also do a smaller version, but after seeing results. The true 140 outperforms the 120

EDIT: Yeah the gelid is 125mm wide. Would this mean the Thermalright true power rev A should fit?

Depends how much room you have between your Tranquillo and back of GPU. You need about 6.5-7mm
