Half Life 2 Episode...4?

I remember playing I think the third episode and despite the great gameplay it lacked advances such as moving trees/grass, which some games of the time had (Stalker I believe was one). Was still great though but thought they could do with advancing the engine much further. It did however run great on the hardware of the time.
HL 3 would have to be a huge leap forward and as others have said, the expectations might be so high it will never happen because of it. Some things are better left in the past, better that than releasing an unimpressive HL3 that then destroys the reputation of the original HL series.

Maybe it will go the way of Black Mesa? No need to make a new engine, just get the community to work together and make what they would like to have. Valve has increasingly been allowing the community to get more and more involved, so I wouldn't be surprised if they allowed the community to make episode 3 and they (valve) just act as a platform for selling it and taking a percent.
 
It's all long con, just to divert attention away. valve will release Episode 3/4 and along with that, HL3 will come into the picture.
