*** The Official Destiny Thread (now includes 2.0 and TTK) ***

Lap it up Destiny fans. Remember those dance moves people bought. Well this is what happens. Only the start of the milking.

So no DLC then? The free content thus far has been meh, racing is kinda fun I guess but not something that kept me going more then a few days, the festival of light I didn't care for at all. I rather just pay £20 and get some actually content, then this tbh. And if that £25 pack is real then this game is going down hill faster then I thought. Cosmetic stuff is nice but its slowly creeping into changing the games experience, if you buy the racing book you get better racing gear, thats actually goes above just cosmetic, one day it could be Pay2win.

Perks on the Momentum set are exactly the same as the perks on the Circuit set you get from the quests/vendor...no advantage from buying the record book (just flashy strobe lights on your armour).

You say free content. But what free content has Destiny had so far to justify this kind of price? Bungie need to be taken to task over these prices, otherwise the sky is the limit when it comes to microtransactions. A lot of people love this game hell I used to be one of them. But these prices are beyond words! And the fall back response to microtransactions like these is that you don't have to buy it, well that's true you don't, but to not argue that these prices are insane is amazing to me.

Why does the free content have to justify the price of a level boost microtransaction? I wouldn't pay it personally, but if someone values 6 hours of their time over 25 quid then good for them.

I'd rather have the regular small content drops like SRL and later a decent raid in the new year some time, than the poop they shovelled at us for 20 quid in TDB.

Because Bungie have said the money from the microtransactions will pay for future free dlc. And you still think this is a good enough deal to not blast them for these prices. Look you clearly love the game and are very reluctant to have the game and Bungie being seen in a bad light, but come on! £25.00 for a level 25 boost for each class £75.00!!! for the lot. Can we not agree that these prices are bad show from Bungie/ activision at least?

So you think the raid will be free?

I'm fully expecting it too cost £20+ and have extra micro transitions included, they never said free DLC, just content IIRC. I am a bit salty cause PVP has been a POS recently, I've not had a single lag free game, Trials this weekend was insanely bad too the point where me and team mates would randomly die from killing others (Just said misadventure, once said the architect killed a team mate? Not even sure what that means). On top of that since all the casual are off racing its just sweatie matches, I typically enjoy them since I have too actually pay attention, but its super annoying when the game is already crazy laggy.

I also understand its up too a person too value their time, but Bungie is clearly going for a crazy price, I've seen the TTK edition go for £25-£30 so its almost the price of the full game too get 1 char too lv25. And that is a clear advantage too the game that goes above looks, you paying too get ahead compared too a normal new player. Granted its not much but what will we see next? Oh heres a 290light pack too get you raid ready, oh orxy pack, PVP pack. Hopefully it fails and they stop before it gets silly.

Well, I guess my view on microtransactions is biased as F2P pays my rent and puts food on the table :P

The 25 level boost is just a time saver, doesn't give anyone any kind of edge. If as you said it was a light level boost that avoided you having to raid that would be a different matter.

I won't comment on 'slippery slope' and all that....as I don't know what they will do in future. I'm happy enough with the microtransactions as they are at the moment.

If the next raid is paid DLC....I will seriously consider if I want to keep playing. I'll pay for a Destiny 2 with revamped engine and cutoff of last gen consoles....but if it's just a TDB size content pack...meh.

I think the subclass boost is more of an advantage then anything else, I got a new hunter too lv40 and my subclass is still not maxed. Slippery slope might be a tad weak but it also is a concern, bungie did promise it will never go past cosmetic and its already starting too creep.

I also think the DLC is paid, they said all this mirco transitions pay for the live team and I'm not sure they will build.

Is the subclass boost not the same as the exotic class items you got in TTK that boost subclass rep? Haven't seen a description of it anywhere yet.

If it's a complete maxout of the subclass that is a bit off. I still haven't maxed nightstalker on my hunter :(

Exactly! Where does it end? They are testing the waters with each and every new microtransaction they put up.

Bungie crossed the line when they took away content from a game that I already owned outright (and with the incredibly poor value 'season pass' to boot). I'm struggling to see how that is even legal but with modern gaming we are simply ripe for the picking as far as software companies go.

It may be cutting my nose off to spite my face but I won't be buying another Bungie product.

Micro transactions have their place but what you get and what you have to pay (to get them) in Destiny is beyond a joke.

~£5 for a single dance move..
~£10 for a SRL record book (just what?!)
-£25 for a level 25 & sub class boost is down right disgusting.

Cosmetic or not this sort of pricing has no place in a AAA £40+ release.

How on earth can £10 for the SRL book be a thing? That is half the price of one of the first expansions FFS (whether the expansion itself was well received is irrelevant).

I bought the SRL record book, quite enjoyed running through the challenges and the strobe lighty armour is cool. Value is relative, 8 quid or whatever it was for a few extra objectives and cosmetic rewards is fine with me.

You don't miss anything by not buying it, you don't lose any edge in SRL, you get the same perks, the same drops etc without spending a penny. If it's not good value to you, don't buy it!

Not sure, I read it as a thing that would max out your subclass, I feel you my 2nd hunter still hasn't maxed out a single sub class.

The thing that worries me about the book is I have the feeling it will be used a metric too see how successful SRL was. If enough people don't buy in then the event might be left behind, which is a bit worrying as it won't include how much fun people had.

Also from a purely marketing perspective I think if they gave everyone the book for free but locked all the unlocks it might have sold better. Like you log in one day and your like hmm if I spend £10 I would have all this cool stuff. Instead of having too pay upfront then grind out which may be intimidating/off putting, while others may see it as a challenge.

And so it begins. Expensive!

Oh dear, that's taking the pee a bit

Again. With all due respect saying don't buy it does not get to the root cause of the problem here. People are calling out Bungie/Activision for the prices they are putting on these microtransactions. There are valid concerns over where this is going. Now I don't play Destiny any more seen the light if you will, but I'm expressing my concerns here because this kind of pricing will filter down to all gaming eventually. Look at Destiny on a whole. The game launches with very little content for the £40.00 price tag, we then get two expansions for £20.00 each or £35.00 for the season pass, Most of the content in these two "expansions" use mostly levels and enemy's that were in the base game, about 70% from the base game. They then release The Taken king for £40.00, which again uses levels and enemy's from the base game, admittingly not as much, and there was more new content but still you could argue the Taken are the same enemy's just reskinned. We then get microtransactions, here is where the fun start's. Start off with just dance moves, test the waters to see how much fuss is kicked up, look at the sales and the next thing you know they want £25.00 to level one single class to level 25. I can absolutely guarantee if Bungie don't get stick for this and people buy this level boost, it will get worse much worse. Again can we agree on one thing at least, Bungie are taking the pee with these prices, you don't seem to be able to call bungie out. Do you think these prices are good value for money?

Value is subjective. If I was earning a mint and had recently got into TTK and wanted to level up another char and didn't want to spend a significant chunk of time into levelling a character up, then I would probably think it is pretty good value for money.

You can drop some serious wedge into the game I work on, and there are lots of people that do! It's not for anyone else to decide what is good value but the individual.

It's highly likely that Bungie will sell very, very few of those packs...but those that do buy it are paying for further development that you will benefit from, what's the issue?
