Double Bed Recommendations

Silent night make good mattresses. For £300 can get a 1000 pocket spring that will stay ok for 5 years.

Silentnight Comfort Luxury Pocket Sprung 1350 Mattress with Silk & Wool Layer for £324 on ebay! That particular mattress is also a traditional double sided mattress, so you can flip it over to reduce wear and get more life out of it.

Very good value compared to places like John Ryan. I'd imagine the quality is comparable. The comfort layers might not be quite as thick, but you are supposed to have a deep filled mattress topper whichever mattress you choose anyway.

The best thing I ever bought (after getting a decent mattress) was a 5" Goose Feather Topper. It makes the bed very very soft, but doesn't affect the firmness, so best of both worlds.

Yup, good quality topper useful. Also best to get deep bedding as it's annoying when fitted sheets ping off.

Yeah, I have a double bed with a really deep mattress and so always used King Size Sheets. Now I have added the topper I need to get some SuperKing Sheets to fit over it all :)

1)Order super kingsize bed from Oak Furniture superland or whichever internet solid wood furniture supplier is yours of choice.

2)Get an Ergoflex mattress delivered.

3)Sleep well sweet prince.

My two cent...

Get larger than double. GF and I want bigger than double now, and that's not funny when you've got £600+ in bed sheets.

So, buy the size you'll end up in anyway... and you won't waste money down the line

Haha £600+ on sheets. How much did you spend on the bed?

King all the way.. more room for sleeping (despite me always being on the edge!!!) and other stuffs ;)

Delighted with our John Ryan bed. It's very firm (at my wife's request) and took me about a month to get used to, but it's spot on now, my back has been noticeably happier and quality of sleep has improved. The guidelines on their website on body weight vs firmness seem quite accurate and are worth bearing in mind.

Had a Dunlopillo bed and mattress that has lasted 20 years without issue.

Got a new one recently just because we moved house and had an extra bedroom rather than anything being wrong with the old one, which is now relegated to spare bedroom duty.

The latex based mattresses have all the advantages of memory foam with none of the drawbacks like retaining too much heat.

For bed frame: Ensure it has places to tie / use handcuffs.
You know... Shame not to be able to do it if the fancy takes you & SO...

Mattress - I would heartily recommend good memory foam. (Dense, over 80Kg per cubed meter)

anyone else have the problem of getting the right mattress?

I'm 16-17 stone and the Mrs is under 10 so a firm mattress for her I just seem to sink through

our mattress is on its last legs but we just cant decide
