Its been a while since I wandered the ocuk forums and am only doing so now cos my aging GTX 470 is running really high temps and despite cleaning everything and changing the paste correctly I think its on its way out.

I am an nvidia fan boy, I do some video editing in Premiere / AfterFX and some simple 3D work in Maya, watch video's, play old computer games like Skyrim (I only buy games once they drop below £10), I am frugal :)

So my budget is £100ish and a 750 Ti seems to fit the bill, but which one? or should I go down the AMD route?

Please help me decide on the best bang for my £ gfx card :D

The GTX750 Ti is the best choice at sub £100 and it will give equivalent performance to your GTX470. Its considered the minimum you should be using for gaming at 1080p these days. The Digital Foundry guys on Eurogamer really like it and have it in their budget gaming PC setup.

Personally I'm not a fan of the AMD R7 370. To me its everything wrong with todays graphics card market. Its a rebranded R7 265 with a small overclock. Whats worse is the R7 265 was a rebrand of the HD7850. Essentially you are buying a card that came out in February 2012 with a new name.
Really wish AMD/NVIDIA would stop this practice

the only Nvidia card option you have is the 750Ti, but performance wise it will be like your 470, or even lower.
the best boost in perf i would suggest you is to grab an extra 50£ and buy an R9 380 158£
and going AMD with freesync compatible gpu will probably save you 50-100£ later when you get to upgrade your monitor.
there is a 370 in your price range, but the gpu is just too old and too close to 380 price range to recommand it.

What about for lower res monitors? The 750 Ti should be fine?

i guess yes, but the extra 50£ gives you just way more performance, double the memory, and usefull features.
for exemple when you are changing the options on some games, maxing out the texture resolution, takes a lot of memory, but the game visuals increase significantly, while maxing out other options like AA and filter takes a lot of performance instead while the visuals change isnt that obvious.
in my experience you need the right balance between memory and perf delivered by the card, 2go just doesnt cut it anymore, today to play 1080p you would need at least 3go or memory to always max the texture, and enough performance to compromise on filters X2/4 and shadows and you still get 60fps, the 380/380X does just that, hence the worth of the extra 50£ are well deserved.

For me, i have never felt the need to max out the settings in a game. Med settings seems just as nice and very playable.

Thanks for the info.

For some reason I thought the 750 Ti would be faster... oh well...

My monitors max res is 1680x1050. I currently play Skyrim at that res with all the settings on max with a few mods that increase realism and the card had coped just fine for atleast a year or two running at about 37fps. This has now dropped noticeably and its skipping frames.

I do, have never used it though as things go to quick lol :)

Yes you do need to keep that page open on your phone and refresh it regular lol. I would stick with Nvidia personally at the moment. Given Amd drivers are a bit naff at the moment (see and driver thread) its also taken me hours of unisnstalling / reinstalling drivers and rolling back to older ones to find a stable solution for our 390, yet the recent nvidia drivers are perfect. Not to say they have not had issues as they have just personal experience at the moment.

The guy asked for a card a £100 card and the suggestion is spend £150, that is like someone asking for a £500 card and someone suggesting a £750 one. absolutely ridiculous.
