Can't decide between R9 380x and GTX960 GPU.

Got some spare cash so I want to get a graphics card for my PC, spec is i5 6600, 8gb DDR4, 500w PSU gaming at 1080p.......a R9 380x for £188 or a GTX960 OC for £166. Both have 4gb GDDR5 RAM. According to the Outervision online PSU calculator the PC's total power requirement with the AMD is 387w and the Nvidia is 307w.

Thanks

A review here for you comparing the GPU's.

I may be biased, but my vote goes to the faster 380X. :)

There are two ways to look at the R9 380X. On the one hand, it offers a useful performance bump over the existing R9 380 - a card that already beat Nvidia's GTX 960 quite handily - and for our money, it's the fastest £200 GPU money can buy right now.

I'd go for the Sapphire 380x, You can't fault there quality nowadays. I've got one of the Tri-x models and it's an amazingly well built card.
If you go Nvidia go EVGA and if you go AMD go Sapphire.

AMD Radeon R9 380X review

The issues we've observed all seem to be related to the driver's CPU overhead and its lack of multi-thread support - and even with the release of the recent Crimson driver, DX11 performance is still clearly under par. In this market sector, Nvidia may not be the fastest, but the GTX 960 is often more consistent and during 'in the moment' gameplay, a stutter-free experience counts for a lot.

Thanks.....the 380x is the Sapphire Nitro but the 960 is a Gigabyte. If I look at the EVGA 960 I am looking at approx. £183 for a 4gb version.

380x if it is between the two. Personally unless you get a bargain on it, either grab the 380 4gb or the even better 390 rather than the 380x. The cost to performance diff between the 380 and the 380x just isn't worth it IMO.

Price difference between the Sapphire 380 and 380x is only £2 but the extra cost of the 390 is £70.
