• Competitor rules

Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. Can't decide between R9 380x and GTX960 GPU.

You will be fine in an mATX build with a R9 380 - a mate has a Sapphire R9 280 in a Bitfenix Phenom, which is a mini-ITX case, and is fine. I was talking more about smaller volume mini-ITX cases and probably some of those prebuilt computers from OEMs.

So they end up spending twice as much to get to the same place. Or, you could save up and buy higher end hardware which has always been the more sound advice.

Cards like the 960 were never high end and never offered very much performance for the cash. So you buy one. Then six months later you buy another - repeat ad nauseum. When if you'd have saved up a little bit more you could have got a decent card to last you far longer.

Honestly, cards like the 960 are like Macdonalds. No matter how many of them you have you'll still be hungry.

How often you change your card is on you, They don't suddenly become incapable of running games forcing you to upgrade again and again.

I don't change my card/s very often because instead of wasting money on stopgaps I save up and buy the real thing first time.

Your completely missing the point.
How long a card lasts someone is up to that person.
As was pointed out a 3 or 4 year old mid range 7850 is still fine for running games today so some people will be perfectly satisfied with that.
Just because you wouldn't be is neither here or there.

How dreadfully depressing.

380/X over the 960 with out a doubt, the 960 is a budget card masquerading in a higher price bracket.

Having deliberated over the advice and opinions in this thread and having read various online reviews i have made the decision to buy the Sapphire R9 380 Nitro. Thank you to all who contributed in this thread.

I think you made the right choice, enjoy the card. :)

+1

I am a GTX 960 owner and I find when they have to work hard they fall behind the AMD cards due to the 128bit bus.

What a bummer.........the Sapphire GPU is no longer priced at £149.99 :-(

Well it was a daily special on Saturday but somehow lasted right through to earlier this morning. The 4GB Asus card for the same money is still on offer though. That deal runs out Wednesday.
