Is Raid 0 worth it for me?

Hi, I am still using a single HDD...yeah I know right?
However I have just bought my first SSD. yay! It's a 1TB so will store plenty stuff.
My question is. I should hopefully really see a difference going from a cheap HDD to SSD. But would I notice a big difference going from SSD to 2x SSD Raid 0? Is it a big jump?

Thanks.

To be honest SSDs are so incredibly quick (even limited to Sata 3) that I wouldn't bother with the downfalls of a raid. Yes the read/write would be around 90% quicker but you also have twice the chance of a drive failing.

Ninja Edit: Minstadave beat me to it!

Very true. But If I returned the 1TB SSD. I could, for the same money get 3x SSDs with 750GB Storage. and really good speeds.

I know it increases the chance of failure...but really...how likely are the drives to fail? If the answer is anything more than extremely slight. well I don't wan't to be using even 1.

Is there a downfall other than potential failure?

Can't help but think this would be cool.

Sounds like the majority are against RAID 0.

I use it for my gaming PC with Dropbox for any important files and Steam saving all my games.

I have 3 x Sandisk Extreme Pros (240 gb each) in RAID 0 for over 1.5 yrs now, never missed a beat.

Prior to that had WD Raptors x2 in RAID 0 - no issues ever.

If you want the ultimate performance then you definitely need to go RAID 0 ;)

YEah Im seriously considering returning the SSD I bought, swapping it for 2x 250GB SSD's having them in Raid 0. I will Save £50, have twice the speed and I'm buying the NZXTs340 so it will fill the two SSD drive bays and looks sweet.

have twice the speed

In benchmarks, sure. In day-to-day use, I doubt you'd really notice the difference.

Besides, the fact you're coming from an HDD means any SSD is going to feel much faster anyway. I'd rather have the 1TB and not worry about game install sizes etc than be faffing with RAID and half the capacity.

I have 4 ssds in raid 0 ( Samsung 840 pro) and a 2tb storage for steam (older games) and for my stuff i don't wanna lose and 2 usb externals for other stuff but for the speed 1200mb/sec its so worth it for me and just have my new games that will take advange of the load times on that drive.
