Fiat Seicento 899cc

Few things I have learnt over the past few weeks,

A motorway I was on had a massive puddle across all three lanes, that scared me hitting that at 60-70mph at night.

M62 turned into a car park a couple weeks ago that was frustrating - Learnt to entertain myself by smiling at the miserable people or providing them with some tasteful music.

Oh I hate people with yellow headlight also
 
Anyone here got a motorbike after having a car license first ......
Interested in a motorbike but not sure where to start ...............

Used the all mighty google and it's talking about people having no license, no mention of car license holders ....

Car licence makes no difference to getting your bike licence. This thread explains it all http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18300467

Even a small bike will feel like a rocket ship compared to your Seicento though, you'll look like this :D a lot.

Absolutely loved it at the time, just don't expect it to be lightning quick! The only issue mine ever had was the handbrake constantly needing adjusting. They're very easy to work on though if you're that way inclined.

Random question :

Did you alter you car in anyway ?

Air filter ?
Sway bar ?

Once i buy my new car this will become a project car as i've become attached haha

handbrake adjusted once already :)
Fan belt changed at 45K as it was squeeking at me all the time.

had my first bump , luckily it was a fence post

Don't bother and just enjoy it for what it is. Air filters etc will make no difference and although suspension MAY improve handling, the cost:benefit won't be worthwhile.
 
Biggest improvement I made to mine was fitting Sporting alloys to it - shortened the overall gearing some so I ended up recalibrating the speedo (quite a different size tyre to the standard steelie wheels), but that shortening really did help with acceleration and still left it enough headroom to keep pace with traffic on the motorway. At least it made rejoining the A38 from the service stations near Willington a lot less hairy!

I been on a few motorways so far

Oxford then Reading

Canary Wharf

South Tyneside twice

I work in Shrewsbury so the journeys were not short
 
First car is a first car :) enjoy :)

I had a rover metro :p, loved blasting about in it, because it was my first

God I hate that junction, the one with Shell/Jet/Whatever petrol station and the diner...? Bad enough in a 2.4 turbo, its slightly scary in my 1.4, don't even want to think what its like in a 899cc Seicento! Coming off it is a mare too, slam on the brakes and then an immediate tight left...

The Clay Mills junction is trash too, as is the one coming off the A38, tight left turn to Stretton...

Pretty cheap for such a small car, surely? If not, grab one from a breakers. It's dead easy to fit too - 2 or 3 bolts generally.

Not mega money to sort. Biggest issue is getting to it in the first place if you do it yourself - you'll need the front right wheel off, and the arch liner out of the way. Are you sure it's the alternator though, and not the battery or belt?

Cookeh - yeah, that's the junction! Deeply unamusing in a low power car - taking off out of the service station there (it's now BP, was Jet, Shell before that!) in pa's Land Rover isn't what you'd call straightforward....

Changed the belt 2 weeks ago as it was slipping but now I'm thinking maybe it was slipping for a reason,

Yeah two bolts that's how I adjusted the belt.
I can get an alternator cheap but I'm on my way to work and left it with my mate who is a mechanic

When I was on my way back from work the speedo was going nuts, dropping to 10mph then jumping back to the speed I was doing.
Wipers were slower than a granny crossing a road.

no idea , can't see any information about a buying a battery with all the paperwork.

Previous owners kept all receipts for parts and MOT's , haven't seen a battery one, I'd guess it wasn't that old to be honest, it looks almost new.

To be fair I only paid £280 for the car and I've done 6000 miles in it since October.

My mate will check stuff like the battery/pulley?/alt brushes before changing the alternator.

got any other ideas JRS ?

That's a valid point - older batteries can just drop cells when there is a cold spike in the weather. Grab a voltmeter, check the voltage of the battery when the engine is off, then turn your car on, and see if its charging at all from the alternator (you can ofc also check alternator voltage to see if its charging the battery). This will tell you if its the alternator or the battery.

It was freezing Wednesday, Thursday so I see your point,

But can't the alternator run my dashboard lights and other electrical things once the engine has started ?

just asking - I like knowing these things :)
 
Ehhh, when the car in running, yes it is generally the alternator that powers your car electrics. Charging the battery is really a secondary role.

So when you turn the ignition, what exactly happens? Does she not turn over, do you have any lights on the dash, do any of the electrics work?
