**** The Official Google Nexus 6P Thread ****

Guys, who has gone from the nexus 6 to the 6p ... Thoughts please ?

And also what is everyone's opinion on the video camera ? I know the stills are great , but how do you find the video recording. I do a lot and use the clips to make little videos of my kids.

Quality / clarity very good. Lack of stabilisation quite noticeable though... Wouldn't say its a strong point if moving around lots whilst shooting.

Has anyone had this and a moto x play? I got the play for the battery life but the camera isn't great. Seems to have a poor shutter speed among other things. I'm also not sold on the reception I get with it. My iPhone 5s was better but battery life was useless.

If I get this on contract (with a baby on the way I don't think buying out-right is an option this time), and Vodafone load it with all their cr....stuff can I put on Google's stock ROM and avoid Vodafone interference altogether?

It should be clean from voda. If not then yes you can flash a clean rom from the Google repository.

Cheers :)

My Mrs had the 6 at the moment and she loves it, I has the 5 when it was new and lived that till I lost it. Smart Ulta 6 is good but I miss my Nexus.

Dumb question as I've not done any tinkering for a while.

To use this can I be on stock, I just need to root and install the kernel?

Really liking the look of some SoTimes in that thread, what are you getting?

Rooted and Elemental kernel, definitely worth it. Getting 0.42% drain when screen off with these settings. So smooth also, and no issue with performance. Download the script and run it as rooted and you're good to go :)

As far as my SoT, bearing in my mind I have pretty terrible signal at work - averaging around 4:30hrs with a day off charge. On WiFi could easily do 6.

Really really rusty from rooting/unlocking phones (although I have done many in the past) but if I unlock bootloader, root and change kernel does that still allow me to get OTAs?

I'm 99.9 % it's a no no, especially with a change of kernel. Not sure on root only.

Even with root only, you may still get OTA's if it's the new systemless root method - but when you get an OTA you'll remove root anyway - so it's still just as much work in the long run. You may as well not bother with OTA's and just dirty flash the update in recovery.

I'm sure before long a ROM will be available that will OTA itself rather than the Google OTA, like CM does.

Do any of you guys use this guy's tool?

Basically I don't want to get into tinkering if there is any reasonable chance of me hashing it up and softbricking my phone, as it's basically perfect as it is, a bit more battery life is all I'm after.

The only time I've ever done any tinkering and it hasn't resulted in at least a few failed flashes/searching for hours for which twrp version to use/some other balls up has been when I used that guy's tool in the past on my Nexus 4, which worked a dream. So that's pretty much the only way I'd consider doing anything.

I unlocked the bootloader when I first got it, and I know root will be easy, but can I flash the kernel using this? I can't see it on the main menu anywhere.

Also, I won't need custom recovery to install the kernel right?

One last thing, I won't be able to use the HSBC banking app if rooted too?

So looking at this seriously now as my contract is officially up for renewal today and the deal basically amounts to £240 for the phone over the 24months. Compared to keeping my current phone and taking a sim only deal.

Received a January update last night on my 60. Just a small 8.7mb though and I have no idea what fixes it contained just yet.
