Winter Thread - 2015/16 Rain or Snow ?

Depends on where in the country you're going to be. We're moving west currently and do not expect the same amount in Alberta that we got in Ontario.

I moved to Alberta so am only expecting a couple of feet. Talking to my new neighbours the snow only really starts properly in December and regularly disappears and reappears throughout the winter. Other than that morning of snow stu mentioned at the beginning of October it's been an almost steady 20 degrees for the last month. It's like a British summer, but all the trees have shed their leaves.:D

Interesting configuration building now with high pressure between us and Greenland that could bring a cold spell, opinions divided whether it will be little more than the tail end of these storms or a more sustained cold snap. (its an odd one as the larger number of permutations of model runs show it as transient but the outcomes that show it as a longer pattern are being picked as more likely).

Always funny looking back over these threads! lol. Yeah, a cold one to the start of next week. Noticed that the weather app had a snow flake for Tuesday! I bet that doesn't happen and the models change at the last minute!

The weather up in Aberdeen is terrible just now, all roads leading out of my village of Peterculter are apparently closed just now due to flooding and it's now snowing. High tide at 12 tonight, after that the flooding will hopefully ease.

A short cold snap? Maybe

Tonight's GFS runs already are backing off the cold snap it was showing yesterday (still fair potential mind) but the ECM and UK met models are in agreement for high pressure replacing those rolling lows off the Atlantic for awhile so definitely potential for opening the doors to colder weather and snow.

Yea my parents are currently awaiting rescue by boat in Ellon... Completely unheard of up this way. It's now dinging down with snow here too.

Just saw on the news some of the river levels up that way are so high it is past the max some of the monitors can measure :s

I'm just up the road from you in Westhill, lots of flooding on the back roads, and on the A96 last night,

All replaced by snow this morning!
