About a week ago toilet blocked, assumed too much paper, did the plunger and rod thing, seemed to be back to normal. Still blocking however, not a paper problem, must be a pressure problem maybe due to a blockage further down. Possible DIY job?

First thing I would do is use drain unblocker, completely melts tissue... comes in white bottle, with yellow text.

But would also give the plunger another go, to see if you can dislodge it... but do it before you use acid or you risk drawing it back up the pipe and burning yourself.

Don't use the drain unblocker unless you have SOLID connections between the toilet and pipe... i'e not plastic flexipipe - It will melt through it.

Well that rules out unblocker then.

Go to homebase or B+Q and get "Power plumber kit"

Its a green can with a rubber flange about 20 quid, it will blast everything for about 20 meters down the line good and proper.

Have you got one of these low flush toilets and is your house built before 1970's.

Mine is and I had a few blockages and turned out to be the 90 deg bend into house- it is made up of three 33 deg bends and the builders miss judged the bend and pulled it in a bit so opening up outside of joins - Low flush and women with paper at night caused paper to stick on joins - by morning it was dry and stuck - put a few months or more of paper and it got worse. - Couldn't rod from M/H as rods jammed so did it down stack.

Now I put a few buckets of hot soapy water down loo on regular basic - if you do it now it "might" unblock your loo if it's same cause - worth a try.
