The Revenant

I just read the wikipedia of the guy this film is based around. Holy crap.

Edit: If you don't want the film spoiled, probably best not to read the wiki article.

I've read about the guy and what he is most "famous" for..
Im not 100% sure how that will fit into the film, what percentage of the film will be dedicated to it.

Looks amazing... Maybe this will be his oscar? I love Leonardo DiCaprio, one of my favourite modern actors.

Looks superb!
Dicaprio is seemingly incapable of making bad films in recent times and has to be Hollywoods most consistent actor.

Apparently shooting was a nightmare due to the decision to use only natural light. Because it was such a remote location, simply getting from whereever they were staying to the shooting location meant there was only like 2 hours of shooting time per day.

To be honest I'm not sure if that's just pretentious and being awkward for the sake of being awkward. I mean it does look nice, but will it be enough of a difference to notice throughout?

I did love Birdman though, so I'm looking forward to this.

Watched this tonight and holy crap, what an amazing film! Tom Hardy is excellent as always, but this was an Oscar-worthy performance from Di Caprio, simply mesmerising!

The bear scene is as brutal as has been talked about, in fact the movie in general pulls no punches, it is truly visceral.

It's also a beautifully shot movie, stunning scenes and imagery.

9/10 for me!

You have summed it up brilliantly. Such a good film - this may be the year for Leo.

It might be Oscar worthy, and let's face it - Leo spent the last 10 years betting on Oscar scripts and and giving them everything he's got, but he's not the type of actor that lines up with folks at the Academy. In fact the "no matter what didn't get an Oscar" crowd is a bit of an elite by now - Ed Harris, Glen Close, Bill Murray, Julianne Moore, Edward Norton, Annette Bening, Samuel L. Jackson, Sigourney Weaver, Johnny Depp, Gary Oldman, Joaquin Phoenix etc etc.

Let's remember that this is the kind of competition where Cher can win with Glenn Close and Meryl Streep, Sean Connery can win with Morgan Freeman and Denzel Washington, Nicolas Cage can win with Anthony Hopkins and Sean Penn, Whoopi Goldberg can win with Annette Bening and Mary McDonnell and Mira Sorvino can beat Kate Winslet.
It's judged by people who think that Rocky was better than Taxi Driver and All the President's Men, autotune musical Chicago was better than The Pianist and Gangs of New York, Shakespeare In Love was better than Saving Private Ryan and The Thin Red Line while the The Big Lebowski didn't even deserve a nomination and Kramer vs. Kramer was better than Apocalypse Now while Alien didn't deserve a nomination.
