I may have got someone the sack, now I feel bad

I'd want a new monitor delivering as well. Water is serious stuff for electronics.

The monitor was bone dry, as was the wrapping it was in. It's all good.
That's not to say I wasn't tempted to make something up, maybe I am a decent chap afterall  wouldn't have minded two of them though :p

At least you waited until after Christmas to destroy his life.

To be fair, waiting until after Christmas, when they guy has probably emptied his bank account and ran up a massive credit card bill/overdraft, secure in the knowledge he had a job to pay it off with in January is a master-stroke on the OP's part. :D

I'm joking, if this guy gets sacked, then he's brought this entirely on himself, especially if this isn't the first time he's pulled this stunt.

I'd say he gets no sympathy from me but to be fair I have no idea what kind of pressure he might have been under, etc.

I had something that was supposed to be delivered around about New Year where it wasn't delivered and the driver faked proof of delivery which caused me a fair bit of hassle until the retailer was convinced so I don't blame you.

EDIT: Doubt he was fired through unless he was already several stages along the disciplinary process or they wanted rid of him, companies generally don't really want to fire even the shoddier workers unless they have to, more likely got a good talking to and a written warning.

Do the delivery companies offer some form of bonus or comp on successful deliveries? If someone is prepared to leave a monitor in the rain and forge your signature you would probably expect they do.

At that/this time of year they will normally be under pressure to delivery a certain amount per day.

Looks like the mods didn't find it amusing.

Chances are this is a regular occurrance.

He won't be told specifically which customer has complained unless his managers are complete idiots.

If he didn't want to be sacked then he should've done his job properly and honestly. He brought this upon himself, I wouldn't feel bad in the slightest.

He committed fraud.

Well no, not really.

I also doubt he was 'sacked' as a result of an instant decision whilst the OP was on the phone, there will presumably be an investigation etc before dismissing an employee.

It's a tricky one because obviously on this occasion it backfired but we have regular delivery drivers who will often sign on our behalf and put the package somewhere safe to save us the bother of organising re-delivery. They shouldn't do this, we've never asked for it but to be honest we are kinda grateful..
