Hi guys.
My 1TB HDD is constantly getting filled up and I keep putting stuff onto disc. Seems to be old hat so I think a new drive is in order.
But which one ?

Picked two
My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £228.84
(includes shipping: £9.90)

What makes the WD better and worth the extra pennies. Or is there no real difference ?

the WD reds are designed for NAS drives or 24\7 use, what is the HDD going to be used for, storage or a games\data drive?

The drive is just for general use.. Pics, docs, music, software. That kind of thing

Out of those available this is the one I would go for

I would never touch the Seagate and the Blue is WDs 'new' general use/storage drive.

Cheers for that info

A question about "spin rates"

The Seagate spins at 7200rpm
the Cavalier Blue at 5900 rpm ( IntelliPower )

My thinking has always been the faster the better. Is this not the case ?

Not really anymore. Whilst yes faster is technically faster the usage of mechanical drives nowadays means there is no real world benefit.

For the price difference I would get the blue, you will probably never notice the difference in speed if it is just for games or storage.

Blues are 7200rpm, at a guess i think even the blue Cavaliers might be limited to around 6000rpm though, in standard petrol guise.
