Healthy eating / Diet / Juice Fast

how does it remove the healthy part? everything from the fruit is going in. I don't use a juicer I am using a nutribullet style blender

In he OP you were talking about juicing, which discards the fiber and skin that contains the micro-nutrients. Juice itself is mostly sugar and water.

A blender is much better, but you still have to figure that fruit is a of sugar, so you want to balance blended smoothies with plenty of protein and fat.

Yogurt and milk are great additions but if you really are intolerant then you will need to try much harder. Nuts and seeds are a good bet.

Also good smoothies are typically about equal weights in terms of fruit and vegetables. You will get a healthier smoothie mixing things like blueberries with spinach, kale, broccoli etc.

Hopefully you like ginger but adding a little ginger to any smoothie makes it taste amazing. Also good for rescuing failed experiments, added to much beetroot and celery trying to be extra healthy, just throw in a load of ginger to get a peppery spiciness that is refreshing and masks the vegetables.

My typical smoothie is:
  • Half banana (if I am going to be lazy it is not added, if I plan a bigger run then it is the full banana
  • Big cup of mixed spinach and Kale, knob of broccoli or half celery stick
  • 2-3 tbs full fat yohurt
  • random assort of frozen fruit : raspberries, cherries, blueberries, strawberries, mango, peach. etc. Normally 2-3 types and about 3/4 of a cup
  • 1/4inch ginger in pieces
  • 1/3rd cup porridge oats
  • big table spoon of chia seeds
  • about 12 almonds or cashews
  • fill to the top with milk.

At this time of year I go running at abotu 10-1amm when it has warmed up a bit, so I drink half first thing when I wake up and the rest after the run. I I have done a hard work out then I add a serving of protein powder, some more nuts and a whole banana. Carbs + protein are very helpful after a workout.

Some people add a whole eggs to smoothies. I tend to fry it and have it separate. Again, if I have done a big run the egg will eb on toast, if I had a n easy day the egg is likely plain.

Berries generally have a lot less sugar.

And if you want to add some fat etc. Get some almond or cashew butter and add a tablespoon or so in or avocado if you can stomach it.

Raspberries are awesome. Lower sugar, good fibre. I get frozen ones, chuck it in the blender, some full fat milk (or cream) and protein powder. WHIZ!

Least then you're covering all bases and not just smashing down a boat ton of carbs.

Didn't say there was anything wrong with them, but he doesn't sound like a runner and drinking a load of fruit / veg will just be a ton of carbs and no fats or proteins.

Which is why we have all told him to add plenty of fat and protein such as milk, yogurt, nuts and seeds.

to clarify the smoothies I have been having are

morning:
Banana
blueberries
blackberries
cherrys
raspberries
topped with water

afternoon:
blueberries
carrots
spinach
chia seeds
with a squeeze of lime
topped with water

I love nuts, but I tend to go a bit mad eating them and just smash a whole packet down my neck in half an hour just too tasty!

and no I am definitely not a runner :P

I would heartily recommend getting a 'nutrition extractor' rather than a plain old juicer, such as the Nutri Ninja, which can blitz apples, oranges, nuts and ice cubes into a pulp, meaning that none of the fibre and goodness in them is lost.

I have several smoothies a week and they really fill me up and keep me going.

That's called a "Blender" and doesn't come with the associated £LOL price tag of a "nutrition extractor" whatever the hell one of those is.

Someone posted on FB the other day that they'd just bought a nutribullet rx that's £200 for something my £20 breville active blend can do. Got to love marketing.

Got the Breville myself, amazing piece of kit for under £20 that I paid for it. Actually has changed my diet quite a bit and for the better but I feel like I'm already outgrowing it sticking frozen half avocados inside for green smoothies.
