They are pish. Newer rubber style is so much better and llaway from damage etc.

People say the decathlon one is usable but can't see it in stock. Any that is ant+ should work?

Aye, i'll have a look about, but will probably end up just forking out for the Garmin one. It's definitely not the battery as i tried a new one. When i test it i get the red cadence light flashing fine, but the green wheel/speed one never comes on (apart from the wee flash it does when you hit the reset button, so i know the bulb works!).

The Garmin speed/cadence sensor combo at £50 is 100% worth the money, you won't regret it if you splash out.

tbh, I'm more annoyed that i'd actually decided to get off my fat arse for the first time since august and actual do some training and then just got fed up with the technology fail and gave up. It was cold in the garage anyway. :o

I have a Bontrager one, which just fixes on with a rubber thingy, so can be moved from bike to bike. Great in theory. In practise, it's a bit loose, so depending on the seatstays it can lose connection... I've been on some rides where it gains and loses connection every couple of pedal strokes, so my Garmin is going bee-doop bee-dong bee-doop bee-dong bee-doop bee-dong over and over. I took it off and put in in my pocket.

Incidentally i've been meaning to look into some trainer software, just for the delicious delicious numbers. TR seems a bit expensive for me, as does sufferfest and Zwift seems a bit pointless until they release an actual android app. Has anyone used the myETraining app? Seems okay for the money. I assume it just works based on a bluetooth speed sensor.

TR is ~£8 a month and contains a huge number of plans and workouts, it's probably the most comprehensive offering and, compared to what some bike stuff will cost, will make a huge difference to your riding. I can't fault it.

An Android TR app is on the way apparently. I've got a free month of TR if you want to give it a go.

Agreed. For training TR is awesome. There are better options for not being bored of course... :p

TrainerRoad really is an excellent app. The lack of Android is annoying currently (but it is coming at some point). I've been using it for ages, and the amount of workouts is immense. The training plans seem pretty good too.

I also have a free month available if anyone is looking to try it out.

You can also cancel TR at any time. I just had it for 4 months last winter then canned it. Reactivated again this week.

Aye ross meffen had the same issue. He got the strap style warranty replacement.

Woot, 2kg down on my xmas weight. Just another....a lot to go until I will stop feeling the urge to buy one of those Fat Lad at the Back shirts...

PM was despatched yesterday too so may arrive in work today. Woo. Sadly won't be able to try it out until the weekend most likely.

Bike light etiquette

I went out riding on the B2B railway path with a friend and were told off a few times because of glare. If my light is too low then I don't get notice of imperfections on the path but if it's higher then it results in complaints from other cyclists.

I noticed some kept their lights at higher angles but covered them with a hand when they passed other cyclists but when the path is busy it looks quite cumbersome.

What sort of angles do you position your lights at?

EDIT: The path isn't lit, runs through the countryside and is pitch black!

Haha I'm like the ultimate windbreak at the moment, which sucks as the wind is a killer. Mind you, down 5kg since Christmas. Done 102km so far this week... on we push... :p

I had a Swiss man on a bike shout at me about this, but I was on a back road, with no houses or lights in sight and it was hella dark. Too low and I couldn't see where the road even went! I just move it up and down depending on where I am in the route.

i use a german light, it has beam shaping like a car light does, so it actually puts light where it is supposed to be

Magicshine lumen-cannons just throw light everywhere, and dazzle oncoming road users at any angle that's properly useful for seeing by

now that bike lights are actually bright, it's about time we had beam-shape rules like fritz does

Power meter has arrived, woo. The chainrings look a little more worn that I was expecting but still fine I think. I guess the test will be once I install it.

Nice work :) I'm aiming for 1kg per week - don't want to pwn my muscle mass too much :p

My miles aren't as high as I'd like but they're not too bad. Going out for a nice easy-pace hilly ride on Sat with some friends that don't cycle that much so hopefully that will make up somewhat for the food fest I'm having in the evening:

What model of light is it?
