Lotsa great suggestions, cheers
Thinking of going for these. Reasonably plain looking and cheap. Although potentially they look a tad stiff and uncomfortable. Anyone tried them? Are Firetrap considered decent?

Who cares what they look like, i wear a pair of these for traipsing round the town when it's particularly wet or snowy http://www.trespass.com/aldor-mens-lace-up-snow-boots-02174
Really comfy, keep my feet toasty just won't be winning any fashion awards.

Problem is unless you live in aberdeenshire it's just not cold enough to justify a proper pair of winter/insulated boots.
I bought a pair of North Face insulated slip on shoes about 10 years ago. They still look almost brand new as they are just too hot to wear unless it's around or below 0. I wore them a few days a year if that.
A decent pair of leather fashion boots (like the cat/timberland/HH boots) is all you need. Get a slightly thicker pair of socks when it's particularly cold if you need it.![]()

I've been looking for a pair of Timberlands, the standard classic 6" but the problem is that nowhere seems to have them on a sale so they're £160-£170 and I'm not paying that for a pair of daisies!Timberlands?
