Just been spending a few hours with other club members setting up the CX course for tomorrow. Glad I didn't have any riding planned today, it was bloody chilly!

Assuming the cycle lane didn't have a solid white line then he was right, alas!

I thought it was fairly obvious by my post that I was meaning I was in the cycle lane when they tried to cross.

Not sure whats up with you recently always moaning or grumpy on here you used to be alright a few months back :(

Chill out Winston! It wasn't obvious from your post thats what you meant and Von was just pointing out that (stupidly) in a lot of cases he would have been technically right to be there. It wasn't a pop at you... unless I'm reading something very wrong!

Its been sunny and windy here so the roads thawed out and then dried up so I got a short ride in. New jacket next winter as this one is great in terms of keeping you warm but I sweat up in the thing like mad! Cleaned the winter hack too. It actually came up quite nicely with just a quick wash.

After seeing a broken chain abandoned at the side of the road the other day it activated my brain to realise that I'd be stuck if that happened to me! What should I be carrying to get me home if the worst happens? As rare as a broken chain is I'd like to be prepared. I assume it is just a quick link of the correct speed and a chain tool? Or do I just need the quick link?

Just got back in from a friendship-destroying ride. My friend's girlfriend let me choose a hilly route. I kind of overdid it without thinking about it and broke her. She seems cross

Nope, not bitching, and it wasn't obvious from the post. A dashed cycle lane isn't worth the paint. Mind you, a solid white line, so called "mandatory" cycle lane is equally useless as they're never enforced. Also a bit misleading as it's not mandatory for cyclists to stay in the lane, but mandatory for other traffic to stay out of it.

For a broken chain you'd likely need a chain tool to pop out the broken ends of the failed link, and then a new split link to rejoin it. And you should turn replace it asap. Some people are sceptical enough about using split links as it is, never mind two on one chain!

Yeah it would only be to get me home. I picked up a couple of multitools with chain link removers in recently so I just need to get the quick links (7 speed for my hybrid and a couple of 9 speeds). I should probably get a chain wear checker as well now that my hybrid has around 1500 miles on it and hasn't always been looked after meticulously :o

Decent 80 miles today, thought my hands were going to fall off, but we're fine after an hour. Glorious day for it after that.

What's your route like? Looks similar to ours today but goes out a bit further. Might pinch the GPX off you and check it out.

I expect going out to Windsor to be a bread and butter ride for me this year. Good distance and elevation for some TT bike action!

Go with the roady option - carry a couple of spare chains, maybe a new cassette as well, and you never know with chainrings.. ;)

Haha think we've all done that! They always survive once the doms is over!

Hahaha that's brilliant! I can just imagine how that went!

I've not been out on the bike yet, was snowing and spent all day clearing out the garage ready for new flooring, trainer etc. setup.

We have another few bikes round the corner ha, we're sorting out bike storage and think I'll put the endurace on the trainer and sell the bianchi. Trainer ordered now too! :D

Nah, just get huge panniers and take a Brompton with you.
