Dysons...are they worth it?

Ive got an old Dyson DC07, its been great since day one. The parts are all over eBay too so it is very easy to maintain. I cant see it ever dying really, its needed a couple of belts but thats about it...

So a Dyson vote from me.

I have a old Dyson DC14 Animal upright and it's been brilliant. A couple of years ago the motor blew so rather than spend a fortune on a new hoover I bought a brand new motor on ebay for £27 and it's been fine ever since. You need to remember to clean or replace the filters to maintain the suction. You can get a full set on ebay for less than a tenner so I replace them every couple of years.

Bought a VAX in their pre Christmas sale, it was mostly old models they were shifting with around 70% off. So picked up quite a bargain. Works OK.

I do prefer the bagless vacuums, as you can lift the container out, and just press a button over the bin and out it all drops, much easier than swapping a bag over.

It is certainly interesting to see so many positive comments about dysons normally they get a pretty bad rep for reliability round here. The bag v's bagless argument is an old one which I guess isn't going away anytime soon!

Same here! The VAX is ok. We've had a few Dysons, never been that impressed TBH, especially for the price of them.

We have an upright dyson, pain in the backside to the stairs and to hoover the cars. Want to do under the bed? no problem just lift the bed up:( We have used Henry's at work (care home) marvelous hoover when I sold the care home I kept the newest henry and now I use it to clean my buy to lets after tradesman and hoover my car. The wife can keep the god awful dyson.

So you got an upright when you wanted/needed a cylinder then complain because it must be that its a Dyson.
Whats wrong with want to clean under the bed, use the hose and do so.

Dyson make cylinder models too :p

Cylinder Miele Cat & Dog is pretty damn good. It is bagged, so if you prefer that when trying to empty the thing, as I do, then it is perfect.

The brush bar on the Dyson is the only reason I would choose a Dyson other anything else.

I have a Miele cylinder, after using various other devices, best I've ever had!

Same as iraiguana I am not a fan of bagless cleaners, I had one before this and I don't think I'd get one again. Too much mess and hassle.

There is a reason that when people refer to vacuum cleaners they mean a Dyson.
People rarely say, pass me the vacuum cleaner, or pass me the Hoover (1990s). They say pass me the Dyson.

Ummm nope, everyone I've ever spoken to says hoover. I've never heard anyone say "I've just Dyson'd"

Along with only finding Dysons at the tip, second hand electrical shops always seem to be full of them. If they are so good why are so many people getting rid!

Mine is a cheap Argos own make cylinder I bought 6-7 years ago and still working strong. Bags can be bought off ebay for less than £4 for 5 and last ages.

Second hand places have them when people need money and realise the hoover is worth a couple of hundred. We got rid of one and replaced it with a newer one, doesn't mean we didn't like the old one.

Thing is everyone will have different experiences, and it is not fair to make assumptions or that one brand is better than the other. They all have their pros and cons, and each of those will be different for each group of people.

Personally I'm not a fan of dysons, they do look cool, and they do work, but I just don't find ours is worth the premium. I still prefer my henry and certainly feel as though it did a better job of vacuuming than the dyson - but I doubt there's much in it. As long as it picks up most of the dust and keeps your house clean then frankly they are much of a muchness.

Yes but vacuum cleaners are one of those things you only replace when the one you have breaks, do you not.
