What have you done to your car today?

Seem to have a slight oil leak coming from somewhere. Only started to occur recently, seems to be less when the car is pointing nose down on an Incline rather then up. Can't see anything around the vanos, ccv, or engine seals. Guessing I didn't tighten the sump plug tight enough when I changed the oil last time. Decided to wash the underneath and see if it persists. It hasn't really affected engine oil level.

I had something similar lest year. Sump plug kept working it's way loose and a bit of oil was leaking onto the undertray. Park it on something not flat (like my Dad's drive) and it made a mess as the pool made a bid for freedom.

Ended up getting it helicoiled, now it's fine.

Fitted a gear gaiter and Skunk 2 gear knob to my Civic.

I thought it was pretty easy. I did it in a couple of hours and I'm not exactly a mechanic.

Had a look underneath it and the sump plug is fine. Seems to be coming from underneath the undertray. Checked the oil filter top and it wasn't fully tight. Gave it a little more turn and will check it again tomorrow. If not that then I'll change the oil filter gasket as the next step.

Shine a torch down and look at the rear of the oil filter housing, will be very easy to see, there will be oil gathering in those square recessed bits of the engine block.

This pic without the housing explains it better.

If the oil filter top wasn't secure it would be pouring right from the top all the way down and would be a lot more mess round the crank pulley etc

Yeah I looked there but it didn't seem to have any on there, seemed to be more gunk but nothing fresh. It's more towards the front of the car as the undertray is wet more towards the front. Crank pulley seemed fine. I steam cleaned all the spots so I can check in the morning.

Came face to face with a HGV on a single track farmers lane after he'd gone past 2 "No HGV" signs  I wasn't expecting that or the multiple cuts in the front passenger tyre sidewall from whatever was sticking out of the hedge as I squeezed by :(

It's not leaking but it's an MOT fail (I can see metal) and, to be fair, my car needs the tyres to be 100% :D

Luckily I have a spare from the numerous punctures I got on my right rear during my landlords building work (replaced both LH & RH, kept the good LH) so I'll swap to the "hot stand-by" and use the sliced on as my emergency spare should I knacker another tyre and need a few days for a replacement to turn up.

Sorry to hear that Ian, I hope it's back up and running asap!

I finally got around to removing the sub from the boot which a previous owner had put in there, gave it a quick wash (bloomin' raining wasn't it?) and checked my fluids.

Replaced the front passenger wishbone on the MX5, as it was slightly bent :o

Also needed a new steering arm, and roll bar drop link.

Just bled my clutch fluid as the old stuff was looking very dark. A 10 minute job with the right tools and an (un)willing volunteer. Had read that it might improve clutch and gearbox feel - too early to tell yet, but given that I had the fluid anyway, even if it makes no difference, at least I have fresh, clear looking fluid.

Bought a new one

Taking a bit of a chance on a limited edition octavia vrs (has the potential chain tensioner issue), but it is approved used so if it's going to break it needs to do so in the next year! Thoughts of e91's have been left behind for now, can't find one I'd want for the money I've got to spend. This will cost me next to nothing to change into so happy days

Really need the fn2 moved on now, as luck would have it I've had a couple of calls about it today

Gave the car a quick wash with the snow foam. I love this stuff! If you've got a good coat of wax on then the car looks awesome just from a quick coat of that then rinsing off

For a few hundred quid, I'd just get the revised tensioner fitted - it's not a huge amount for peace of mind
