Hot hatch for £6k

If you don't care about running costs then 350z is probably the best performance you'll get for the money. Nissans also tend to last forever.

Oh of course, an Octavia VRS is another! :)

MK2 preferably. In bright blue!

Or an RX8 for £2K - £3K so you have change for the engine re-build at some point during your ownership.

+2 Points in Motors Cliche bingo - just missing the suggestion of a Mondeo :)

Can I get a point for...

Or a nice EP3 with A/C!

A £6k corolla is laughable - at closer to half that it's worth considering

You can get them for £4.5K.

Remember that the Compressor is the one I recommended, which has the following additions over the standard T-Sport:

- Supercharger
- Twin exit exhaust
- TTE shocks and TTE -20MM springs (Eibach)
- Wider 17" wheels
- Underside re-enforcement members
- Damped front strut brace (also fitted to facelift T-Sports)

It may not be "technically better" than the popular choice - an EP3 Type R - but it is quicker in a straight line, it has a beautiful SC whine, and it is a far more interesting and rare car. More likely to turn heads. Especially if it has the TTE front bumper. :D

Admittedly however they are a bit fickle, the gearbox is silly, and £4.5K is too much unless you take into account their rarity. I'd buy one, but I'm me.

You'd probably be better with one of the options already recommended. :)

ff 182 are not going up in value and neither are turbo'd clios that are going to go pop sooner or later

And?

Did he ask for a car that's going up in value? Does it sound like he wants to buy one and dry store it as an investment?
No

and if you look after a turboed 182 you will be fine.

You are going to ignore me and everyone else will call me barmy, but a 2006 Corolla T-Sport Compressor would be an interesting alternative to a Type R. :) About 225BHP from a 1.8 supercharged straight 4 with VVTL-I (like VTEC). Sounds awesome as well...

They are quite rare, only 500 made, but good ones can be had for £5K.

They will do 0 - 60 in 6.5 seconds, and you could get 40MPG on a run if you so wished... (I know you said you're not fussed about fuel economy, but not many hot hatches of that era can top that)

I don't know why someone wanting a hot hatch with no care about cruise control would want a fairly sedate hot hatch in comparison to the award winning class leaders of the time.

By fairly sedate I assume you mean just as quick if not quicker, with a high revving engine with high cam lobes & changeover (like VTEC) and a supercharger stuck on it for good measure?

There is no need to spout crap about a car you clearly know very little about, especially when even I said that it is a bit of an unusual suggestion, and the money would probably be better spent on something else...

Behave yourself, they're worth nothing like the money the OP is willing to spend and nearly everything mentioned here is a better car

As I said before, at close to £3k sensible, anywhere near £6k you'd be off yer rocker

There's no need to tell me to "behave myself" I put it forward as an obscure suggestion knowing that it would probably be overlooked, I mentioned its pitfalls myself, and I even said the money would probably be better spent elsewhere. And yet people still pick holes in things for no reason.

Because they're outclassed by pretty much everything else

There's nothing wrong with saying its worth looking at one for a couple of grand, but if you honestly think they can compete in the company mentioned here you clearly haven't driven a lot of cars. They're not bad, but horrid inside, out handled by pretty much everything here and when they do actually appear for sale usually for funny money

So, behave yourself :p
