Hows everyone's Jan diet going? :p

Now I'm reading that eating too little is the worst way to diet. That I should be eating nuts and yoghurt, piling on the protein, in order to burn more fat...

Eat goods fats, protein and vegetables. On your veg put olive oil and some avocado for a kind of salad. For nuts go for almonds, don't touch peanuts.

Part A - give up alcohol for 6m.. going well. Although when friends came over for dinner I had some red wine, everything else zip..
Part B - better eating.. reduced sugar and eating basic veggies and meat rather than any processed.
Part C - coffee just in the morning. Water otherwise..
Part D - exercise ... umm... trying to get a point when it's not freezing/raining or I don't have to be in a normal state for job interviews.

6ft1 and just over 13 stone just a bit around my stomach needs shifting
its like today walked from polzeath to rock and back then had a few hours bodyboarding (quite a workout getting outback in fins) but now ive got a family pack of cheese puffs and a bottle of pinotage ,need more will power

I started following a slimming world style diet with a view to making it a permanent switch as all I'm really doing is cutting down on bread, sugar and milk and replacing it with more veg, eggs and meat.

I'm in my second week, I lost 7 pounds after my first week and have found the diet enjoyable so far.

Low carb diet in full effect and hitting the gym 3 times a week which I have never done before. Going out for a works lunch tomorrow and I have ordered a salad.

I'm not on a diet, but I have changed my eating drastically from takeaways every night to around 1 takeaway/eat out meal a week and then bulk cooking meals. So far has been going great

I usually skip breakfast and lunch, two meals I don't seem to need. :)

Also drinking a lot less than I used to, but I don't appear to be losing any weight.

Energy boost Considering most peoples idea of breakfast is toast, fruit and/or cereal all you're actually getting is a sugar spike and then a crash
Help you focus better
Prevent you from gaining weight and keep track of it No, just no. Please tell me how eating first thing in the morning will help prevent you from gaining weight or controling it? It won't it makes no difference, in fact not eating till later in the day can actually be beneficial for weight management
Boost your metabolism Again no, your body doesn't magically reduce it's energy burning capacity just because you don't eat on waking

Those are the basic reasons.
My best friend had shingles twice last November, hes not fat, he is small and slim. But the doctor said one of the main reasons why he had it was due to skipping breakfast as he didn't have enough nutrients to maintain his metabolism throughout the day.

Now he eats cereal every morning before going to work and stopped drinking coffee completely.

Jesus wept is that the sort of crap being peddled as medical advice these days!?

Those examples were taken from may sites such as Mens Health, not going to disagree.

Jesus wept is that the sort of crap being peddled as medical advice these days!?

At the end of the day, he changed his habits as the doctor ordered after going for blood tests, he feels much better and has more energy now.

Cant argue with that if the advice he was given by the doctor actually made a change, can you? Otherwise he be back in a hospital bed.

Still trying to gain weight this year, I've added tuna and Greek yoghurt (which is foul by the way) and going to the gym ~3 times a week. I missed last year's target gain by 3kg (put on just 7kg) so I really need to get my finger out this year. The long term goal is to gain 15kg overall.

So far the diet's going well. Also reducing sugar and caffeine intake.

That is what needs to be done on a 'diet'. Trouble is most people that diet think it's a one off.. rather than changing long term habits.

No diet, but I have managed to avoid having a weekly takeaway this month.

I'll probably lose a pile of weight when I go on holiday in April anyway given previous experiences.

Next we'll be having people posting in here that you have to do cardio to lose body fat ;)

My diet is going well, in that I haven't put weight on and have lost a little body fat. Doing weights 3 times a week and eating solidly but routinely day by day. Circa 2000-2500 calories day.

Used to be able to eat close to 3K cals a day and not put weight on but been in an office job for the last few months and it's hard to not go over my TDEE. It's dropped from about 2800 daily to 2300 :(

And eating fat makes you fat.
And not eating carbs at night leads to magical weight loss.
And smashing 10 pieces of fruit into a smoothie is amazingly healthy and will lead to loosing weight ignoring the fact you've just piled an exta load of kcals on top of your normal diet but it's fine because well fruit!

Using a combination of MFP and my Apple watch to monitor what i'm doing i've lost 10lbs in the last month.
The watch feeds in my exercise calories to the app, the app helps me choose food carefully and stick to a nett 1200 cals a day.

Calorie counting Monday to Friday and my weekend meals are modified with a little of what i've learnt from sticking to the count during the week but not worrying too much.

I have a target of 180lbs so a little under 20 more to go and I'll be officially good on BMI for the first time in too many years, all from a worse point of bordering on morbidly obese a few months back.
I feel like the app is teaching me to eat well too, whats good and whats not so I think it will stick after :)
