AMD NANO £349 or the Zotac 980ti for £499

Except it is unrealistic expectation...I mean one only have too look back at the history of moving from 500 series and 600 series, the 660 was still a bit chunch behind the GTX580, and it took a GTX670 to match 580's performance.

If a new Nvidia coming with around 980Ti level performance and beating it by a nose, you can bet it wouldn't be priced at sub £240; £200 would most likely be the EOL price of the 980Ti.

Absolutely. If the new mid-high cards are anywhere near 980ti performance, they will be £350 ish.

The new £240 cards will probably be 980 performance, give or take. Still, that's £100 cheaper than a Nano, lower power, and better features.

But £100 is only worth waiting a few months if you're very budget conscious :)

At the moment your on 1080p, unfortunately the currant HBM cards do not perform as well as we expect at this resolution, they perform much better at higher resolutions. with the possibility of new NVidia cards being announced at GTC at the start of April (and yes it is only a possibility) If it has to be now this is what I would be buying.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £500.00
(includes shipping: £0.00)

hmm....no idea why the thumbnail image isn't working.

Maybe its not a good idea to buy £500 vouchers now to commit to something completely unknown in terms of time till release and price for performance.

If waiting i would keep my options open, AMD and Nvidia may yet ask £450 for cards marginally faster than current £500 cards and bang on about how they use 50 watts less.

Thats certainly a possibility.

Well with the way things are going according to some people the next gen that is marginally faster will be an infinitely better option than the current gen that is about to be replaced.
Also how is £500 for something faster a bad idea in a couple of months time, rather than £500 now for something slower.

If you HAD to and you were thinking of watercooling, then NANO 100%, but as others have stated in this thread already my personal option would be to wait for pascal.

I bought the zotac today and managed to buy the amp instead of the omega edition [same price] never mind haha wonder how big the difference is

+1 for the nano, got mine today couldn't wait for the xfx deal so got the sapphire at 389.99. Coming from a 780 to this is amazing. Fallout 4 @ 1080p Ultra is like butter and looks amazing. I'm only going to be playing on my tv @ 1080p and might go 4K when the displayport to HDMI 2 come out.

Best card I've owned in a long time.

The adapter is out already. Finding the stock and at the right price is a different matter though...

I'm tempted to go for the Nano as well. My PSU is a 650W Corsair VS though - is that gonna be enough to power it?
Nano is quite a power efficient card, it only consume around 175W out of the box (far more efficient than the 980!).

If you want it at near Fury X performance, you'd need to increase the power limit, and by doing so it will automatically increase the performance from little faster than 980 to right behind the Fury X. However this will result in around 80W higher power consumption, putting it at around 260W...but your Corsair 650W will still have no problem handling it. My 290x has higher power consumption than the Nano, and my Corsair TX650 is handling it along my overclocked system with ease.

Great, thanks for your help. Am upgrading for VR and the Nano seems about the best bang for the buck!

But you should still think carefully about deciding to upgrade now or wait for next gen (that will soon arrive sometime this year).

Depending on what the current card is, for some it might actually be a better option to grab a cheap 2nd hand 290 at around £130 to tie their over and do upgrade when the next gen cards arrive.

But yea if upgrading now, the Nano is very good value and a great performer for the price.

I've got a 280x at the moment which is just under the minimum requirements. I think I'd rather go for something reasonably top end now than spend £100+ on a marginal upgrade to be honest.

Although saying that, I guess the Rift is still a couple of months away so it might make more sense to hold off a little longer. I'm never going to want to spend 500 quid plus on a card though.

Same card as me, then.

Why spend £350 now, on a Nano, when in a few (?) months you'll have a card that performs the same, is cheaper, more power efficient, has better features...

Even if the saving alone doesn't interest you, the fact that these cards will have the best support for DX12, the latest HDMI and DP connectivity, run cooler and quieter potentially even than the Nano...

And we're not too far away, potentially.

It's a tough call if the money is burning a hole in your pocket, but for all the good things about Nano, the new AMD cards will be in another league.

You can wait forever in the PC game and nobody knows when the new cards will drop.

Presumably these new cutting edge cards will be in the £450-£500 region though? And there's no way I'm spending that kind of money on a graphics card.

Edit: Didn't see your 'cheaper' bit. Why will they be cheaper?
