I doubt it was that bad. I had a 54HP Polo as my last car, and it could happily sit in the outside lane at 90MPH if required. On the Autobahn obviously...![]()
1.6 Focuses were never designed with speed as a main factor. Then again, I've had a couple and they've never been particularly "slow". They're nippy enough for their purpose.
Evening all,
Scraping the barrel here. Bought a ford Focus back in May, and it's too slowSearched remaps but the one i found literally gives a gain of 9bhp
I'm aware there's not much I can do to it, but surely there must be something I can do![]()
Please advise
Points to note: Getting a new car is currently not an option![]()
I have a mkII 1.6 focus and I feel your pain, it is a slow old girl which I don't mind too much but it don't half rev high for slow speeds, whats a good rev range for them? I find if I get to around 35mph its screaming for me to go into 5th with the revs over 2000rpm. that's more annoying than being slow to pull away imo.
You should be able to feel where it has the most usable power.![]()
I suspect it will be between 3000 - 4000RPM. But I understand why you wouldn't want to drive it like that much!![]()
My mk1 Focus feels like it would stall in 5th at that speed and can quite happily drive around at those speeds in 3rd or 4th with hardly any engine noise...
Probably want to check the oil then. Mine is 13 years old and always used right up and down the rev range, doesn't burn any oil and doesn't sound like a cat being strangled.
I find people are too keen to get in the highest gear as quickly as possible even when accelerating, I don't have much power but if I need to build up speed quickly I'll just take it up to 4-5k if I have to.
