ISIL, ISIS, Daesh discussion thread.

Well I owe you an apology. You've been through a lot and my assumption based on an opposite experience got the better of me.

It's a shame that that is the experience of culturally driven Islam you experienced.

It's very big of you to apologise and is a rare on these forums :):)

Crap, i'm welling up now, going to take a break

This article from the Independent makes it sound like there is another cold war brewing or in fact the cold war is still on going.

I think there is very much a cold war going on right now - a very complex one with many fronts with even funny situations like 2 countries/entities showing adversity towards each other while at the same time presenting a united front in tension with another - and even who the actual players are is far from clear. Not that I expect anything to come of it (its largely more jostling for position and a show of force than any desire for actual conflict) - but now is really NOT the time to be questioning our nuclear deterrent or weakening our armed forces.

I think were underestimating China currently in whatever intrigue is occurring, we haven't yet seen their full deck of cards id imagine.

Of course just pointless speculation, dealing with Russia is going to hinge on dealing with China at some point, which is likely the hands-off nature with Ukraine is not surprising.

It's very raw, a real eye opener on the issues we face in getting rid of this extremism, i wanted to rage!l who wouldn'

Russia Releases Video Of Turkey Shelling "Syrian Civilian Settlements", Demands "Immediate Explanation"

^Yeah I saw that. Turkey is seeking to expand its borders into Syria.

I think Mr Hammond has just shown our government's true colours http://www.independent.co.uk/news/w...e-with-air-strikes-says-foreign-a6847741.html

There's just one problem with that - if Russia has released it then it's almost certainly bull dust. I agree that Russia is supporting the Islamic State, and also wants to flood Europe with migrants to destabalise the region. They're having some success - look at the split that's already opened up between western Europe and the former Warsaw Pact nations.

Bangladeshi Muslims. Mostly second gen immigrants (although my ex was born there and moved to the UK when she was 16)

Mostly second gen immigrants so their first language was English though they did revert to Bangladeshi now and again. Also i did learn a fair bit of the language.

They didn't start expressing these views to me right away, it was a few years before they started to freely express around me because i was a white (to them) and when they did i started to rise it with my ex, we got into many arguments about it because i didn't want to associate myself with her friends and what they were saying. That's when the relationship started to break down and it got worse and worse. I should have left sooner but i was very devoted to my wife and wanted to make it work as i was an old fashioned romantic and didn't want to throw away years spent with her.

Then the miscarriages started when we tried for a family, then she lost the plot completely and there were several attempts on my life coupled with suicide attempts, it was clear at this point she was mentally ill but as an idiot i wanted to stay and help her, then one night it got to much and i left. Sorry but that night was a nightmare and i don't want to relive it, i'm not going to talk about it, her friends and community started to threaten me and that's when the police got involved.

That sounds rough - sorry to hear that.

Yep, and at the moment I think Putin sees supporting the Islamic State as in Russia's best interests. He's wrong by the way, but then that wouldn't be the first time.

I thought he was supporting Assad against IS and 'our' rebels (not sure what they are called nowadays)

Saw it now. Nothing new of note and there seems to be some factory somewhere where they pump out bearded cap wearing idiots all they seems to say in the same voice is "Innit, caliphate, kaffir, bruv"

I was expecting one of them to say "water dinghy rapids bro" :p

It's amazing these these people are even allowed to walk the streets frankly, then they they say things in such a way they skirt the law without breaking it, sounds like a couple of people i know ;)

Well Russia is certainly bombing 'our' rebels (I don't know what they're called either) and civilian populations in support of Assad, I've not seen much evidence that they're making more than a token effort to bomb IS though.

Which is astonishing as most of them are also islamic extremists too, just not quite a bad as ISIS is right now. It's head bangingly stupid of the west and i wish they would stop arming the wrong people :o
