PC on the desk or on the floor?

Are PCs meant to go on the desk or on the floor? I prefer mine on the floor but I can't find a desk that has a built in PC stand. My parents have one from Ikea but they don't seem to do it anymore:

So this makes me think that they're not meant to go on the floor (anymore)? Is that true?

Also, spec me a desk with a decent sized space for a PC!

I fail to see how putting on your desk would make it neater? Putting it on the floor hides all the cables.

I do put it on the floor already but I want the case partly hidden (at least the cables coming out the back)

Have you considered cable management? Velcro cable ties etc. It won't hide them, but it will make them neat and tidy.

If its pushed against the wall what difference does it make if its on the desk or on the floor? Either way you're not going to see them unless you make an effort to look down the back of the case.

Got mine on a stand, I can see the goodies inside though the case window and being off the floor I can get inside the case with ease and less dust gets sucked in

Now that is a good idea.

Otherwise as far away from my ears as possible so on the floor, desktop is way too noisy for a 'normal' PC.

Mine's on the desk.

+ Not in a caddy so better cooling
+ Easier to tinker with
+ Sucks in hardly any dust

- It's huge so takes up desk space

Mine's on the floor. I also like the idea of it on the desk, too.

I screwed some castors onto the bottom of a small IKEA Lack shelf to make a platform for my tower. Can move it around easily if required and keeping it raised off the floor helps with less dust.
