Been looking for a higher refresh rate monitor, but with QC issues from Acer and Asus variants this Viewsonic looks like it could be a winner albeit at a higher cost.

It's definitely not going to be cheap, but I don't mind paying more if the quality is high and there is no BLB, dead pixels, whites are uniform, no coil whine etc, etc.

Pretty sure I read somewhere that Viewsonic is using their own panels as well.

Meant to be due out in March.

I'm wondering if anyone else is interested in this panel?

Caught my eye, although I'm not a fan of the thicker bezel vs the slimmer Acer and Asus models, which I imagine this one uses the same panel from anyway... I've not seen mention of another panel in existence of this spec, but I'll gladly be proven wrong on that! The AUO p.o.s that's in the Acer and Asus models is plagued with all kinds of BLB and QC issues. I went through x4 XB270's myself, an experience I do not care to repeat! Price LOOKS like it might be edging towards the X34/PG34 territory though, which makes no sense. This really needs to be no more than around the £600 mark to make sense for me, especially with next gen DP 1.3 monitors due later this year.

If the QC is better though and there are no problems with this one then I don't mind paying more as you've experienced yourself it a right lottery with other similar monitors and a right ball ache to return.

As for the bezel if you think about it, it's no different to the Acer and Asus variants it's just the bezel is inset inside giving the illusion it's thinner but it's not really as you get black edges around it still.

This Viewsonic has a physical bezel but the picture goes right up the edge of it.

Yes, all valid. QC will be the key. If this ends up being free of nasty BLB, then it's a winner for sure, but the price still has to be right IMO. We shouldn't feel we have to pay through the nose simply because the others keep screwing it up.
 
OLED does not have inherent issues with colour banding. They are bound by the same restrictions as LCD in that respect, which means if correctly set up with a high enough bit depth that simply isn't an issue. But we'll be waiting a bit before we see affordable OLED options in this sector. :)

How long do you reckon before OLED monitors are reasonably priced?

2-3 years? I guess when Samsung finally starts to churn them out prices might drop then. LG's got no competition at the moment.

Samsung are still very much in the OLED game. I have it on good authority that they produce the 13-14" 2560 x 1440 panels used in upcoming gaming laptops (Dell Alienware models for example). I also have reason to believe that they are actually the panel manufacturer of the UP3017Q. They will also likely be back in the 'large screen' (TV) game by 2017 and yes, that will certainly be a key driver for growth and more competitive pricing.

It's really very difficult to predict, but I think 2-3 years seems fair for us to see some fairly reasonably priced models. But I still think they'll remain on the upper end of most budgets (I could be wrong - this is just speculation). Let's not forget that the first LCD monitors in the mid 90's cost a similar amount to what the UP3017Q will when released, in real terms.
 
Does OLED still have luminescence degradation issues? and the fact that the colours degrade at different rates even over the space of a couple of years. Also, doesn't OLED use a lot more power?

It'll probably take quite a while until they can prove or make us confident that these are no longer issues.

The differential lifetime (degradation rates) of different coloured subpixels has apparently been improved considerably with more recent iterations of the technology. More efficient manufacturing processes (including inkjet printing) and different materials. Furthermore, the preferred method for monitors will most likely be WRGB-OLED which uses white OLEDs as a backlight and then uses a colour filter - no differential degradation issues there. Anyway, I think this thread has been derailed a bit now. ;)

As for the viewsonic monitor. Definitely worth keeping an eye on. Used to have a few viewsonic' back in the day, but they kinda went quiet it seems.
 
Been looking at this one but can't find it listed anywhere in UK retailers, only the AOC which has been delayed numerous times now. Heres hoping the QC is better on Viewsonic.
 
This is the only thread I could fine about this monitor here on OcUK: The rainforest has it listed, but "Temporarily out of stock". It's listed for 699 quid

It's available on Caseking in Germany. Just not in the UK yet... And Viewsonic appear to have zero idea when it will appear...
 
Apologies for bumping an old thread, but I didn't see the point of starting a new one to discuss the same monitor.

I assume that the Acer XB271HU is this monitor's closest competitor? Can anyone recommend one over the other?

I've had a look around and cannot find many other models that support 1440p, IPS/AVHA and G-Sync. Just want to make sure that I consider all my options before forking out this much money for a monitor. Thanks :)

Isn't the Asus known for having really back backlight bleed due to poor assembly? It's also £100+ more expensive than the others. Typical Asus pricing strategy I guess.

I think they do use the same panel. The Viewsonic looks like the nicest but why have they added all that green plastic to it?!
 
I just got the ViewSonic a few days ago now, It's a great monitor but there is problems with BLB on these as well, Looks really bad on camera but you can only notice it on blacks tbh, Anything else you don't, I think the ViewSonic and the Acer has a better scaler for 1080p content that the Asus does not.. That's what people told me anyway on reddit etc, You don't notice the green plastic either really it blends in well with the black of the bezels.

That doesn't look great, and I ended up returning my first two U2713HM monitors for the same reason but I just learned to live with the third one. I don't even notice it any more tbh.

Anyways, it's all moot because the price of the Viewsonic shot up from £600 to £750 overnight :(
