It seems that I carry similar to most of you;

1 tube
Patches
Tiny multi tool
2x CO2 cartridges
2 Levers
Chain link
Emergency Gel*

and what I've ever actually needed...

2 Levers
1 CO2 cartridge
Tube

*If I think I'll actually need something to eat on a ride I stick it in my pocket. This one is here "just in case" :p

Good to see some mountain biking was enjoyed! I find that time goes twice as fast when I'm off road.

Spanners.. a full size chain breaker.. i mean...

That is a lot of gear. A whole chunk of that could be replaced with a single multi tool. Sure you don't get the leverage etc. but it'll get you home. In the context of worrying about the weight of wheels I honestly think I'd start by slimming that bag down!

For comparison I have these in the road bikes saddle bags- http://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/TOJWSSMT/jobsworth-get-you-home-micro-chain-tool--hex-key-set

and one of these in my MTB backpack -

After the stark reminder yesterday how rubbish my brakes are I ordered some Swisstop 'Flash Pro' Greens. I should probably have asked this before I ordered them but these are the ones that people rate quite highly aren't they?

If these don't do the trick I guess I'll have to try new callipers.

They're good. A lot better in the wet than my stock shimano things. I use the BXP ones (kinda blue). They seem really good. Still would prefer discs though.

if i'm going to be over an hour away from home,

two tubes
two tyre levers
multi tool
patch kit (pack one, they don't weigh much - it only takes hedge trimming season to make it seem worth while)
couple of spare chain links
pump
bit of cash
phone

Cheers FT. Will have to try another when it's not so windsome.

That was quite a ride. Physically I know I'm not up to 100 miles but I don't think I'd be up to it mentally either. After a couple of hours on the road I'm wishing time would go in fast forward until I get home!

My saddlebag is quite well endowed, you are correct... But to dispel some of these myths of my 5kg saddlebag here is a picture of the contents...

Wow that is mad, all I take are:

1 tube, patch kit, 2 levers, 4 zip ties, gloves, small multitool & valve extender. In the pockets I have a pump, cash & phone.

I went out for a ride today as the physio instructed, only did a short one and was already in agony by the end. :( My pace wasn't even that good other than on a few little sections.

What would you even need a spanner for these days?
The only bike I have which needs spanners is about 20 years old!

So this afternoons turbo was cancelled by a seat post bolt shear. My own fault for over tightening. Didn't particularly want to spin anyhow but anyway...

Measured at just under 32mm (31.8) but has a '34' stamped on it for some reason. Inb4 your ruler sucks.

If you tighten it fully, won't it then be 34mm?

Finally got out for a club run after so many weekends have passed, almost stopped by issues with an upgrade I did last night for work, but managed to fix the issue in 15 minutes before leaving the house! :p

Two parts as my Garmin died, completely forgot to charge it in the week:

Would have went for the B ride but the wind this morning + hills would have been tough, C run was a slower pace with a lumpy way over to Lavender Hall, was an enjoyable ride. Puts me over my 100 miles target for the week.
