**** The LG G5 Thread ****

Its certainly interesting me more than the S7 with the modular design and dual lenses. Been using Samsung for years now but feel like a change.
 
If that's the case kona and it is sub 400, it'd be a bit of a bargain. But I have the same sentiments. It won't sell that great if it is roughly the same price as the s7
 
Have to say I love my G4 but LOVE the look of the G5 and the new camera and modular features.

LG can been inovative this time, unlike Samsung. S7 is almost the same as the S6 but slightly cuved back, waterproof and brought the SD card slot back!
 
Yeah no chance it'll be that cheap at launch. Though the G4 price did tumble to low 400s within the first few months.

Think this is going to be a disaster
The bolt on modules I've seen (b&o DAC for example, why not include this as standard) are dire and no one is gonna buy them
This there is a point of weakness (and mass makes phone extra ugly)

Interesting try, but I think a disaster

I think the success depends on pricing. LG can't compete directly with the S7 because they don't have the brand value. If this is priced sensibly though it could become a great alternative, and popular with the modding crowd because of the Snap 820.

Samsung is the iPhone of the Android world. All the sheeple will rush out to buy the new Samsung phones no matter what other manufacturers do with their phones :rolleyes:
 
It's a huge shame. I can't see this being much cheaper than the Samsung as it probably wouldn't give them many more sales anyway.

Lets be fair to Samsung. They got where they are by putting out solid phones in the early days of Android and actually put effort into marketing.

While Samsung released the GS2, LG released a dog of a phone that was the Optimus 2X.

And now they realease the G5, which looks like a backwards step in design just to accommodate a removable battery and some sketchy add ons. I'd rather have a removable back than a sloppy chin design.

The whole phone already looks dated by the huge chin and lackluster overall design. An even bigger chin with the DAC add on.

The GS7 in comparison is a solid release.

Agreed - a missed opportunity.

The G5 is even taller than the G3 which has a bigger display...sigh.

LG's flagships only started to become properly good (as in stutter free) since the G4. It can be argued the G2 was also great for its time but the G3 was a bit of a letdown with major stuttering all over.

LG's theming is also very toy-like and unprofessional to my eyes.

They have some cool ideas, just need a bit of a stroking with the pretty stick in the UI department.

Samsung used to have arse UI elements and only recently have toned all that down and matured somewhat.

The G5 is innovative, but it is not something that will last. I also don't know what Sony are playing at with the new X series.

Seems now there is only 1 major player in Android world, Samsung. Everyone is doing one or two innovative things while neglecting the overall package which Samsung appears to have nailed with the S7. Sony appear to slowly be heading the mainstream route now that they're selling in the USA and their colourful themes have started to show on the X range too.

Let's recap:

- Waterproof.
- Big battery
- 10hrs streaming video on one charge as quoted by Samsung
- New in-house high quality DAC, no need to buy a b&o module...
- Wireless charging to full from empty in 1hr 40mins
- Camera module that appears to best the competition and the only one to use dual pixel tech
- Sleek design refined from the S6/Edge which were already good

It is simply the better all rounded package compared to the competition right now.
 
The 'chin' doesn't look any bigger to me on the G5 than the S7?

Agree though, I've never been a fan of Samsung but they seem to have done a great overall job. I've always been put off by TouchWiz and other bloat, but to be fair I've never used one...

But as we all know it's simple to hide much of TouchWiz through other launchers...even Google Now Launcher is available on the Play Store so that's an even more immediate change with really a lack of anything from the user to do.

Thanks, yeah I guess it's pretty much a non-issue and I'm being put off for no reason.

Pretty much :p It's only really Nova Launcher etc where you can tweak more and more but things like Google Now make it really easy.

I have to admit as much as I want to like the G5 I just can't...I like the idea of the modular set up and the camera addition looks great but there's just something about the look of the phone that makes it seem...well, cheap.

I think when I factor in Looks, Waterproofing and Wireless Charging into the mix the S7 wins every time.

i agree.

this time last year if my contract on my s5 was up i'd get the lg g4

now 12 months later i either want to g5 or the s7 edge

lg g5 is just too badly implemented to work. in fact i think lg has taken the good will of the lg g4 audience and thinks theyre stupid. barely anyone will buy the g5

it's a nice test device but it's just not that great when you compare to an all round beast like the s7 edge
 
Surprised at the negativity, I can't see they've got much wrong and I think it's nice looking (the front anyway, the back is a bit odd)
