Hi!

Short post: Has anyone been using these cac-1070 or cac-1170 DP to HDMI 2.0 adapters for 4k60? I've used active adapters in the past and found them quite flakey, so I'm looking for positive feedback on these (and possibly a hint at where/when they will be available).

My life story, for anyone that cares to follow: I used to have a 295x-2 + 290 tri-fire, and I had a single 290 in my "spare" PC. My main gaming PC is connected to an HDMI 2.0 TV, and I chased the promise of a DP -> HDMI 2.0 adapter for at least a year. Then when the 390 series released and still didn't provide an upgrade path to 4k60 HDMI, I gave up on AMD and bought a 980TI. Recently I decided the 980TI was a bit loud, so I removed the reference cooler and attempted to fit a Corsair HG10 980 with an Antec 1200 AIO. That was a disaster, and I broke the 980TI forever.

I sorted myself a bit of budget this month to replace the 980TI, but I'm reluctant to buy a high-end card so close to Polaris/Pascal. Somewhere along the way Club3D released this adapter and my old setup may be viable, so I have decided to use my 980TI budget to put my current hardware under water (or milk), and I'll get a new card(s) later this year. I've now ordered everything I need for the full custom milk loop, apart from the Club3D adapter. Hopefully I haven't made a terrible error, but going by my GPU history it seems likely it'll all go wrong :|

I'm interested in getting one, but they are a pretty penny at the moment.

I have a 7950 which i want to run 4k@60hz, as its only running 4k@30hz through HDMI on my card.

I just want to confirm it will work before i drop a couple of notes on it. So would be interested if anyone has one.

Can't seem to get it anywhere either, oos on the rainforest and all other sites only seem to stock the 30hz version

I've been looking at these also. The prices are insane atm for the CAC-1070 (DP version) to the point I just refuse to pay. There is actually one on the rainforest for £135.00 right now ! I have noticed that there seems to be stock of the mini dp version (CAC-1170) on a few sites which seem slightly cheaper around £30.00 - £40.00ish. Still crazy tho. You would have to get a dp to mini dp adapter also. Not sure if this would complicate things more. Hopefully they will come out with more stock soon. In the meantime i'm not going to bother. I hate getting ripped off.

Do Startech do a similar adaptor?

I've had problems in the past connecting 2 ancient monitors as part of an Eyefinity setup and the only adaptors that worked were Startech ones.

However, this does seem to be very reliant on the GPU drivers. I keep having to rollback the driver software to a point where I'm confident that things work...

Do the adapters work is the question and yes they do but if using on a 4K panel you will still get issues like you do with DP cables.

The club3d is the one you want. Apparently someone else (alleglglel or something lol) is doing one as well though that works 60hz 4k.

You REALLY need a short cable of good quality btw. longer cables won't work right.

How short is short?

I'm going to need around 2m.

I believe 3metres is the max for 4k @60hz with 4:4:4. Don't quote me on that though, going on memory.

I have had mine on order since feb 9th... getting fed up of waiting for the adapters to come back in stock :(

Its absolutely ridiculous that you still can't get a hold of these.

It say's a lot about when the issue was first brought up and AMD stated the leads were coming, All we get is lie after lie and eventually there will be cards with the 60 hz @ 4k socket and they'll just say 'Maybe you should look at our new cards with 60 hz @ 4k'.

Im still checking pretty much everyday to see if it comes into stock. One site says stock should be available in 3-4 days, not sure how reliable that is though.

My GOD! How is it AMDs fault if a manufacture of there own product has no Stock? This has nothing to do with AMD, AMD said these was coming and they did Rainforest had some in stuck just after release anything after that AMD got nothing to do it it.

Don't worry! You can output 4k60 to a suitable displayport monitor.

(I am aware that that is no help or consolation. I've been hearing it for about 2 years now...)

AMD's fault in this is that they still don't offer HDMI 2.0 on any of their cards, despite it being widely available. The solution they offered is to buy their cards on good faith, because adapters would be available soon. Meanwhile their rival have offered true HDMI 2.0 for ages, and also endeavoured to support 4k60 with reduced chroma on their previous generation of cards as well.

Club3D are responsible for the availability of their adapters, but they aren't responsible for the problem. AMD have handled the situation badly.

Its true AMD missed the the opportunity with HDMi 2.0 on there GPUs but AMD said adapters was coming it tuck a while when its something out of your own hands.. They did release and sold out thats it nothing else to do with AMD

I'll still stand by what I said a while back and that I firmly believe people who are playing 4k are doing it on a 4k Monitor sure they some using TVs but its a niche market right now.. The Nvidia FanyBoys around here are making it seem much worst than it really is trust me :D

You can bet nextGen GPUs that will be more 4K friendly will have better 4k support though.

I ended up getting a 4k TV with DisplayPort to get around the stupid AMD issue and even that didn't work brilliantly so I had to switch to Nvidia for HDMI 2.0

I'm aware I'm in a minority but that's one instance where it was important.

True enough it's a niche market, but 4K TVs aren't exactly a rarity and a PC is the best way to drive them.

Regardless of the total number of people interested, when you are part of that niche and have well over £1000 of graphics cards still not meeting their potential it just leaves a bitter taste. More so when AMD are generally dismissive whenever you ask about it, and 10 fold when you see NVidia handle the same issues so much better.

How short is short?

I'm going to need around 2m.

For 4K 60Hz/1440p 144+Hz I've found that 1.8m is the longest length that is closest to a guarantee of reliability - above that it depends on several factors - some people have had luck with even over 3m but I've found it quite hit and miss - 2m should be fine but you might find some of the cheaper ones struggle.

Of course it isn't AMD's fault if a manufacture has no Stock of their own product. But it is reasonable to blame AMD for saying that these adapters are coming soon for the last year, the release the crimson drivers, which supposedly allowed these adapters to be used, which was months ago and you still cannot get one of these adapters for a reasonable price. Here we are at the beginning of March and they are still not readily available.
