Assuming a similar life span the same would also be true for the Division. The season pass will only include a set number of DLC's. At a point there will be additional paid for content above and beyond what the base game + season pass offers. Think TTK for people who already owned the base game + Season pass for Destiny.
Destiny is pretty unique here IMO. That only happened because Bungie couldn't decide what the game should be.
The original plan was 3 DLCs in year One, a massive comet DLC at the end of year one, then three more DLCs in year Two. Then Destiny 2. However the first DLC expansions they released got slated for being poor and not worth the money. They realized that the fans wouldn't buy that many DLCs, so the "Comet DLC" became The Taken King.
THe original idea was that it was going to be a £40 DLC, but after the bad rep of the first batch of DLC they had to change the retail price of the £40 DLC to include the original game again to try and make it easier for new players who would otherwise have had to buy £40 taken king, season pass at £30 for the 3 DLCs and the original game. They shafted the original gamers in favour of bringing the new ones online. Nobody else has done anything like this and i'm not expecting Ubisoft to do the same after the flack Ubisoft / Bungie got for doing it and I doubt Bungie will repeat this model for Destiny 2.
Fans just aren't willing to buy tons of DLC every year like warcraft gamers do, Warcraft has the content to make it worthwhile, Destiny doesn't. That was their original model which they had to abandon and cut down how much paid DLC they were pushing. The backlash was too great. And now Destiny is totaly bereft of new content, and details of new content is scarce, because they're concentrating on Destiny 2. So whatever they do release, it will be just enough to keep the money coming in until Destiny 2 in October / November time this year.
I think the fact that this is a Massive / Ubisoft game, and not another Activision game, should re-assure you that the Division team are desperate to avoid making the same mistakes destiny did. That and the fact the original plan of 3 DLCs, plus a "big" DLC, plus 3 more DLCs had to be abandoned tells you Activision / Bungie knew it didn't work.
