Making a WD blue 7200 quiet

Crikey, these drives can get seriously hot, not sure I'd ever consider covering them in something like that :o

That's what I was thinking. Mine only spin up when they're being accessed, not that I can tell (unless I'm under the desk or in absolute silence) as they're pretty inaudible to be honest.

Nothing worse than a noisy HDD when the rest of the rig is quiet. I might have tried this to cure my bad vibration HDD issues if I had not went 2.5 5400rpm drives.

This isn't really that much different to the Scythe silent drive enclosure I used to have* to quieten my OS drive. Never had any problems with it.

*I'm pretty sure it is still sitting in the bottom of the PC actually

You must have some really sensitive hearing

I barely hear my home server/NAS which is pretty much above my head.

And that's got 4x WD Reds, 1x7200rpm Blue and 1x5400RPM Blue

I could hear my storage drive in my pc from the other end on my room, the vibration noise that at is. I eventually got a hd dock for top of my desk and it sits in there until its needed.

Vibration drives me mental.
