**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S7/Edge Thread ****

Very glad I didn't go for the Edge as the form size is just perfect, very sleek and svelte. :)

Wish I'd done the same, hopefully I'll get used to it but still finding it a bit on the large size, think the standard would have been perfect for me. Very happy otherwise though.

I've been having a bit of any issue with the fingerprint reader, fast but unreliable. It was hit and miss so re-did the setup for my thumb yesterday, seemed better but then this morning it would not read it about 90% of the time. Just re-did it again but have also left the previous entry as well for now, seems okay this time, hope it stays that way.

Yeah, and the irony is that the standard has a gentle curve which imo gives it an "edge-like" aspect without having any annoying screen drop-off. I think the Edge screen is gimmicky and I found the content drop-off annoying.

Mine is scarily accurate, no swipe needed. I just place my thumb on it and boom...

Thank you for the mini review, which launcher are you using and which apps have you disabled ?

Might add a few more later too, but that sort of tidies a few bits up. there isn't that much bloat out of the box really though. Just I don't use any mobile MS Office apps so no need for them.

It actually comes with more MS and Google apps than Samsung.

Is the S Health step counter more accurate or Google Fit? S Health says I have done 7,700 steps today, whereas Fit says 7300. One of them is rounding off the average I bet.

Anyone else not being entirely blown away by the battery?

My battery is at 52% from just over 7 hours usage, total SOT of 42 minutes (listened to Spotify for about 40 minutes this morning, and very little else other than some web browsing).

Yesterday I can't remember exact stats - it did make it to the end of the day but wasn't near what I was seeing from other people's results.

Not sure whether it's just the new battery needing to stretch its legs or if I have a dud device. Cell Standby and Mediaserver are the two highest battery users.

Regular S7 btw.

pulled the trigger last night, samsung website

order now dispatched, doesn't mention the VR with the order though. hopefully it will be together.

Sounds like you're in an area where your signal quality is low? That has a big impact on battery life.

I haven't switched my S7 Edge to be my main phone yet but it has 2 hours screen on time and almost 2 days "usage" with 20% left.

I was thinking the same. I have a S7 Edge which I received yesterday.

I took it off charge this morning at 6:30am. SOT is 1h 38mins. I have been using Apple music for about 1 hour. Says I have roughly 7h left. Currently sat at 61% - Always on Display is also disabled.

Anyone buying from Amazon had any progress? Mines saying that its coming tomorrow but no order progress as yet.

No signal problems here on 4G, same as other phones on the same network. Get 70Mbps odd down, 30+ up.

seems the s7/edge as better signal then my old s5.. with my s7 edge i get 2 to 3 bars and get speeds of 50-60Mb down, 13Mb~ up. but on my s5 i got 1 bar and got speeds of around 10Mb down, 3Mb up.

well i just got off the phone to samsung and guess what

as of Yesterday any orders will not come with VR Headset as they are out of stock

now ive got a decision to cancel order or put a complaint in,

Also wanted to ask, would it be worth upgrading from Sony z3, already have waterproof, micro sd, not sure how the cameras compare

I've upgraded from the Z3 to the S7 Edge - first thoughts:

  • Screen is fantastic - really is as good as the reviews suggest. Feels no bigger than the Z3 in the hand which considering the increased screen size is great.
  • Battery - early days but incredibly it seems at least on a par with my Z3 if not better. Very impressed as this was a big concern.
  • Sound - loud and clear - always an issue with my Z3 at least on calls.
  • Speed - seems a fair bit quicker overall. Although the Z3 was no slouch.
  • Camera - different league to the Z3 in every way. Super fast to start, focus and shoot with fantastic results. Love it.
  • Fingerprint reader - I have a work iPhone so missed this on the Z3. Works very well on the S7.
  • Edge screen - bit of a gimmick to me so far but would imagine this will improve as more become available.
  • Have also got the wireless charger which works incredibly well and conveniently on fast charge.
  • Form factor - a lot more comfortable to hold than the Z3.
So yes for me it has been a really worthwhile upgrade over the Z3 - no easy feat as I had the Z3 from launch and it was a fantastic phone. Also, I got a decent price for the Z3 so cost to change was very reasonable.
