Was having this conversation on Wednesday at the cinema (before the film starts, I might add) and somehow lead to the conversation of what will happen when Liz goes. She's 90 in nearly a month or so and it's obviously inevitable.

So, what happens? Every TV channel just changes to the news and plays God Save the Queen, right? The banks close down and we lose billions over the next few weeks? How many public holidays will we get? Who'll go to work instead?

Here's that moment that the Queen Mother news was broken and Peter Sissons got flak for not wearing a black tie blahblahblah

So yeah, Friday night discussion about when the Queen dies, GO.

I remember when Princess Diana got killed in 1997, the regular TV channels (1-4) were covering the story over the next couple of days. Radio One's 40 chart on Sunday was postponed to show respect etc.

How many holidays will we get from Elizabeth II dying? Now that's being greedy, OP!

It wont be as massive as you think. In the old days, Monarchs were like deity's. When they passed, the whole country was plunged into mourning for weeks. It's a different world today. We'll probably get blanket coverage for a few days, a a day off for the state funeral, then maybe a couple of days for the coronation. Too much money in the world now for people to miss work moping about someone they never even knew. Our business is too global to shut down simply because the Queen has died.

I should add at no point am I trying to flame or troll, hah.

As for this not being as massive, are you sure? She has a rather large scope of international interest, but not that I care for.

I'm sure I read somewhere that the BBC will not show ANY comedy shows for a Month after and all the Official Announcement and tribute stuff is already recorded and ready to be transmitted, some Oz Radio station accidentally transmitted it a while back IIRC :D

Whether you like them or loathe them nobody can deny they are a big part of the culture here in the UK and even quite rabid anti-Royalists like me will recognise it will have a huge impact on the Country when the time comes.

She's a lizard person and therefore immortal. I guess they'll have to fake her death at some point though.

Certain industries will go into overtime. The Royal Mint will get printing, postboxes will need changing, police officers uniforms will need changing, stamps will need printing and much more. Some people will get plenty of overtime out of it probably.

What else will need changing on the passing of a monarch?

OP

There was once a time when even considering the possibility of the Monarchs death was actually treated as an act of treason.

(One of H6 court followers was executed for this)

Think yourself lucky! :p

there was some codeword the military has for this - basically they've got a plan in place and the death will trigger a whole bunch people needing to polish stuff and get ready for a bunch of parades, gun salutes etc..

stores full of no1s and no2s (basically the smarter uniforms) will appear out of no-where and everything else gets canceled to make time for drill and more drill...

I was seriously ****ed off. They cancelled the Hollyoaks omnibus!

I'm not anti-royalty or anything, but the faux out pouring of "national grief" was sickening and I assume it'll be no different when Liz pops her clogs.

Phil will be first though, he can only have a couple of more years left in him tops.
