Otto Warmbier, 15 years hard labour?

How does it work there?

Video shows him blubbering like an idiot, blaming the 'US Administration' etc. Very weird. It was a prank, he sorely misunderstood the political climate, and the consequences of his frat-boy actions.

So, I presume they coax him into making such an anti-American statement, as a publicity\propaganda stunt, but what's in it for him - poor sod still got 15years. Did they royally shaft him, or what?

Execution, torture, life sentence?

Cant possibly think of what pressure a government could put on an individual. ..

Are you a few sandwiches short of a picnic?

Yeah they probably told him if he did the statement he'd be treated more leniently, or that they'd just show it to the US government or something. He's been a bit naïve in doing it, but then again I can't imagine the pressure he was under and I'm sure the North Korean authorities can be very persuasive.

Pro life tip - if you're ever arrested by police in a foreign country DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING until you get a representative from the British embassy down to check it out. It's not been unknown for local police forces to say they are going to release you, you just need to sign the "release documentation" only for said documentation to actually be a confession to a serious crime.

Im sure that will go down well as they beat you with a phone book

Of course he doesn't deserve 15 years hard labour, but he chose to go to North Korea and steal a flag... of all places he can mess about, he does it there? Can't help but not feel sorry for him.

If he did it, wouldn't be the 1st time NK has kidnapped citizens of other countries. It also wouldn't be the 1st time a corrupt 3rd world government has forced a confession out of someone.

If it was a setup, im pretty sure they would have come up with something more interesting than theft of a propaganda flag. It smacks of something a stupid uni kid would do for a laugh and to impress his mates when he got back home.

Obviously ridiculous sentence although he will be out much much sooner.

Have a look at the press conference on YouTube, he goes on about how it was the friendship methodist church or whatever it's called that have $40 mill in their account and they would pay him $200k to steal something precious from DPRK as well as saying the US government allowed/had part in planning it.

All ridiculous. He was probably just messing about, or maybe the whole thing is made up and he's being held for no reason apart from the DPRK using him to get at the US/churches etc.

He'll have a good story to tell when he comes home if he does serve the entire 15 years :p

If he's clever he could probably make a living from it or a good chunk of cash. Write a book, movie and so on.

His hard labour should be standing on the steps of the Kim presidental palace waving the flag for 12 hours a day every day :p

And now the US is demanding that he is released. Good luck with that! :D

If they wait a year or so then they can see what Trump will do with his amazing diplomacy lol, mind u that's if that ****** gets into power. But yeh can easily see a war happening between NK and America if they unleash the Donald on NK:p:D

It'll be Hiroshima all over again and Trump will be all over the news moondancing on stage for teaching them scrubs for messing with the hard boys y0.

When the one time in my life I needed consular assistance I was told that no assistance would be available where the alleged crime carried a custodial sentence, so I wouldn't be too hopeful unless you are a photogenic girl or have well connected relatives
