What have you done to your car today?

Changed my pads and discs. In about ten years of car ownership I've never done it myself until today. Now I'm wondering why I used to pay people. It's simple stuff!

So I read this and went to YouTube for some instructions videos.

With the tools, lube, cleaner etc needed, Hmmmm, the process doesn't look so much as difficult but for now I think I'll continue to pay people to do it.

I seem to remember when I did my Polo, I took the caliper off, swapped the disk, swapped the pads, then put it back together, job done. :p

I suspect that most places would only do that when you pay them to change the brakes.

I do want to replace my callipers to some Red Brembo to match my car :p I guess that's an incentive lol

You say that, but red is one of the few colours black wheels look 'kinda okay' on. :p

Silver is still better though... :D

With regards to tools. I borrowed a winder tool off a friend and then beyond that I used a socket set, an old screw driver, some copper grease, a wire brush to clean up some crud and a bit or brake cleaner spray. It took about 30 mins per corner. First one maybe a little longer.

I would hate to spend all that money on something then have bother and big bills straight after lol.

Not had any big bills yet. Little breakdown of costs up to yet.

BMW inspection spotted that the output shaft seal was leaking and i spotted oil around the top of the engine which could have been spillage from the service but it was enough for me to get the rocker cover gasket changed. My mechanic charged me £260 (£200 labour + £60 for the parts i supplied)

Then this cold start issue,

2 coilpacks £36
2 injectors £312
2 buffers £12
Coding, a few pint later

So only spent £600 sorting issues. A slight hiccup but totally worth it in the end, the more i drive the car now the more i grow to love it, which makes it easier for me to throw money at it.

The tyres, major service and disks, pads and wear sensors is just me getting the car to the standards i am happy with. I was the same with the ST220, could confidently say that was one of the best ST220's on the road when i sold it.

A thorough clean of the outside yesterday! Took a lot longer than I expected.

Wash, clay, wash again, polish, wax, polish the glass and chrome trim, cleaned up the black trims, cleaned and sealed the wheels and dressing on the tyre sidewalls. Today, I tackle the inside, hopefully a much easier job!

^ That's your weekend sorted then :p Front of my car seemed to have got dirty from truck spray just going to give it a quick wipe..

What car do you have now? Convertible E92 IIRC? About time you updated your sig then :p

Very satisfying day for me.

Got rid of some idle droop with a tweak to 1 setting after weeks of trying to identify which setting it was.

Then changed the supercharger belt and stripped all the pulleys off and refitted, got rid of some belt squeal.

Then while the intercooler piping was off I re-routed it by about an inch which let me fit a strut brace and get rid of a slight vagueness in the handling.

After all that I drove my mates almost identical MX5, aside from the supercharger, back to back with mine, reminding myself how much power an additional 80bhp actually is in a go kart car!
