Longest you've been in hospital as a patient

Yep lol. Ended my racing career and my work career as had just been accepted for promotion. Still alive though so can't complain.

That is exactly what puts me off getting one. See far too many of these horror stories. Glad you're alive though, I'd imagine that was one of those every second counts incidents.

Yeah. I was in a coma for 3 weeks and given 24hrs to live every day for a week.

But bikes are great though! lol

4 days when I was 13 due to a testicular torsion. Horrible but could be worse.

What I'm in for. And I developed a sudden onset of Hydrocele the past 10 days. From nowhere. Even baffled the Urology consultants. Kept asking me if I'm sure I've not had it previously. I think I would've noticed ...

Anyway, the spermatic cord got tangled up, my epididymis couldn't be found for love or money, the blood supply seemed shaky and there were dark muttering of removing a testicle. That got my attention!

Funny how I was so embarrassed showing my 'problem' to the docs and nurses the first day. By this morning I'm pulling my pants down and showing all my glory to whole teams of people without batting an eyelid :p

Anyway, operation went really well. Swelling all round, walking like John Wayne but glad it's over.

6 months. Further follow-up operations. About 1yr off work.

edit:
collapsed both lungs, had femur nailed, sub-arachnoid head injury, rebuilt knee, broken tibia/fibia/humerous (knackered elbow join after multiple ops), broken radius/ulna/5th meta carpal, ulna nerve severed (hand now working). Broken clavicle/wrist. Broken eye socket (affected my eyesight but tested). Died 3 times - heart stopped beating and I stopped breathing etc.

Meal - elbow although most taken out now, radius in other arm screwed and plated. Left hand plated.

Bikes are absolutely lethal yet you just can't get someone who loves them off it no matter what happens to them. My cousin broke all sorts after a crash, legs, collar bones, back and his foot was hanging off. Was in a leg cage for 9 months as well as having plates in his leg and skin grafts, all of this at 16 and yet he can't wait to get back on his bike later on this year.

That's good news. Mine untwisted itself so I dodged that one. I remember getting to hospital and the Doctor drew the curtain and had a poke around, which as you can imagine was embarassing enough at that age, however, he then called in about 6 med students (m and f) who were all having a fettle on my poor old nut, they kept squeezing it and then told me to relax when I was wriggling because of the pain.
The morning after the first night, a lady came and read my chart and asked if I was still sore, this was met with a silent nod as I didn't like women knowing about it. Oh, and I had to have a bath too and the sassy black nurse wouldnt let me lock the door :(

Crazy ear infection leading to "bells palsy"

Was quite hilarious, couldn't shut my eye properly or smile. 99% recovered now but i still get headaches and funny twitchy feelings!

oh wow, I had bells palsy a couple of years ago, the entire side of my face dropped and i was put on a killer steroid program, but hearing you get twitchy feelings! makes a little sense for the fact that now and then I feel like the muscles just under my eye are going crazy!

4 days on psych eval after drinking myself to death temporarily when I was young. Boring as hell. That was before smart phones etc.

3 days when I was younger after getting a lumbar-punch - ended up being diagnosed as viral Meningitis (12 weeks off school)

Otherwise - last stay 2 times was 90 mins having cataract done - was the youngest patient by about 30 years in the place!

then 3 months ago about 30 mins getting the snip, went to costa on the way home. Nothing to it.

My longest stay was 5 days when I fell down the stairs and smashed a pot which cut my neck very close to the pulse, and dislocated my shoulder. Was quite good waking up on that ward though to find a note from someone I used to work with saying she was now a ward clerk on that ward.

Overnight only twice with my kidney stones last year. Wasn't too bad as I had my phone and a charger and as many have said the nurses were brilliant.

It's the follow up operations that **** you off.

When you first go in you understand the crap your in and when you wake up after the initial op you are of the mindset to get better.

After many months when you have the follow up ops you are essentially back to square one. All the healing and strength that had returned has gone again.

Plus... Another 4 hours in the hyperbaric chamber !

Which is basically a test tube on it's side that your slid into wearing just those white gowns. The door is shut and pressurised with pure oxygen. Apparently it superboosts the healing process.

doesn't feel like it !!

8 months in coma after a bus hit me while i was in school. Few months recovery after i came out of it + theariphy. Have slight brain damage which effects concentration and socialising.
