Quick eBay question please

No chance he is getting a refund. I will lose the £15 and then another £15 on top of that to refund him. Would rather get bad feedback.

you don't get the choice, if ebay or paypal side with him , they take the money off you and give it him back. its not left to you to decide to pay or not.
you also are only losing £15 not 15 + 15

Bit too late to give advice to you after the event, but I send everything I sell on ebay using Collectplus courier and make sure I select the signed for option which is only a pound extra.

I recently sold a hard drive on ebay and posted it to a flat in London, it was signed for but the buyer claimed he did not receive it and raised a dispute. The money was frozen in my Paypal account and I provided them with a pod and after a week they unfroze my money as I had complied with their seller protection and posted it to the confirmed address with proof of signature.

If you don't mind losing the money then send it with no pod & I would recommend Collectplus over Royal mail, never lost one item yet.

Did you honestly believe that removing the money from Paypal would absolve you from any responsibility?

A transaction doesn't end the second you get paid.

Whilst no-one can prove if the person is trying a sly one, you have a responsibility to accept that you are liable for them not reciving the goods.

Their contract was for you to supply goods paid for.

Your contract with the Post Office was for them to deliver, said goods.

Your issue lies with the Post Office.

Signed For isn't a solution either. I've sent 6 items this month Signed For and I only received one signature/proof of delivery. If it fits through a letterbox they won't knock. I even took to putting a massive sticker 'SIGNATURE REQUIRED' on the last one, right above the address, and nothing...

You'll just have to take this one on the chin OP. Always get proof of postage in future, at least you'll be able to claim with RM then.

Same happened to a mate who sold a fishing reel for £86.Sent it RM cheapest method not tracked, guy claimed it never arrived,so he had to refund him.I think he got compensation from RM for about £5 in stamps.

In that instance you should still have cover from RM though.

Royal mail is very reliable in my experience.

Suggest 2 things:
Confirm their address with them via ebay before posting it:

Is this your address?
Nobhawks name and address...

Yes, ok I am posting it recorded signed for.

Then post it and keep the word doc of the label, get proof of postage, take a piccy on your phone whatever.

Also put your return address on everything 100% of the time. Then if they are saying it got lost in the post you can explain that it has a return address on it and you are going to wait 2 weeks because the RM will then return it to you. That will give you the satisfaction of annoying the living daylights out of them.

But start a complaint every time these NH's state they didn't receive it. It is a cats trick through and through and they deserve to be delayed for as long as possible.

I put a return address on a parcel a few years ago, it ended up being delivered back to me 2 days later as the miserable and unhelpful woman at the post office had put the sticker on the back of the box with my return address on. Even though it clearly said "SEND TO" on the front and "RETURN ADDRESS" on the back. I even pointed this out to her at the time and she just shouted "Nah it'll be alright - NEXT".

Sometimes things do genuinely get lost in the post though. Last year, two things i ordered and one thing i sent got lost in the space of a few months. Another thing i sent special delivery around the same time got delayed as well.

The ebayer who bought the item from me was not lying as i never gave him the tracking number, and every time i checked it said "being processed through our delivery network".

RM compensated for the thing i lost and the delayed SD item but these things do happen so you cant immediately assume the buyer is lying.

I would still always send things with proof of delivery though.

If you complain, you WILL receive postage back for not receiving proof of delivery. And the person posting items without gaining a signature will be disciplined to ensure they carry our the product specification correctly in future.

Don't use Royal mail for ebay unless you send special delivery. Try Collectplus instead.

They link in with your ebay account, refund any loss for postage direct to your paypal account and a signature is only a pound extra.

No brainer!

People on here are saying that is not good enough though - apparently it has to be tracked.

Of course it has to have proof of delivery. Or what is to stop me sending something to my mate, him claiming he never received it (having already given it back to me) and then me claiming the costs back from Royal Mail? I then have the item and then money from Royal Mail, who actually carried our their service.

Hence the reason for the existence of products that require proof of delivery!

ebay will refund your customer via paypal as you have no tracked service.

as you had no proof of postage you wont get anything back from Royal Mail for missing parcel

You may be able to claim the postage cost back as you have a receipt for the postage cost.

What I'm saying is people on here are saying "proof of postage" is good enough.

As you've stated above, it's not - one needs "proof of delivery" - a signature.

You can all mock and correct me but it's the minority of items on eBay which are listed with the delivery requiring a signature. Most are first class and that's it.

Lesson learnt. I guess i'm lucky it's not more than £15.

EDIT - Wait a second....if he didn't receive it, he wouldn't have signed for it...? Your point still stands about being able to scam the Royal Mail.

With the above in mind, getting a proof of postage is ****** pointless.
