So, went out for a nice little ride this afternoon!

Incredibly windy! Some mighty headwinds at times, and some severe side gusts. Still managed a fairly respectable 27 km/h average speed.

This segment however is the biggest ego boost I think! 8th overall (2nd in my age group) and I didn't even know it was a segment! Only 8 seconds off the top spot! :D

The wind is certainly out in force today. I got out for 40 miles but the headwind along the seafront was incredible... Took me pretty much double the amount of time it took me last Tuesday.

That's a real shame, and just not acceptable to be honest given how much it costs. And it's the flagship product.

This is why I'm glad that Wahoo has at least launched a potential challenger. I like my 800 (except the maps as I was complaining earlier), but I want some of the 1000 features. Maybe the 25 (but having maps is convenient)

To counter my Edge 1000 has worked perfectly no problems at all with rain or sweat. You have tried a master reset on it haven't you ?:)

Sadly yes, master reset doesn't do anything with it now, got a feeling I managed to perform one yesterday somehow as it eventually started up with no data stored and asking for initial set-up info. However it's now dead again :(

oh boy, they amount of trees down on my local loop today. Think there where 3 sections of phone line down and a crashed and burnt out rangerover sport at the top :o

Same down here, made worse when going off road on the cx. One big one down on a main road causing havoc.

Mini training block sort of this weekend. 215 miles 82 of which on the cx with nobblies about 1/3rd proper off road. Steady pace throughout due to having remnants of a cold. Hope to have 3 easy days before first open tt of the year Saturday.

I think its bad that i had to 'dust' my bike today in preparation for using it this week. I'll have to learn how to ride a bike again! Signed up to the April challenges on Strava so there's some motivation especially since I've got a week off at the end of the month. :)

red grease is a lubricant, copper grease is anti-sieze. Copper grease is useful for things like pedal/creank interface, where you want to be able to remove it at some point in the future but not lubricate it! I also found copper grease was useful on the back of my old disc-brake pads (TRP spyres), as it stopped the shuddering.

Cassette spindles don't need/want to be lubricated, just put on a bit of the copper-grease, if anything at all.

Just so long as you put grease on the lockring you'll be ok. Lockrings can be sheer murder even with grease.

Can anyone recommend me some new bib shorts that have a high cut/zip at the front?

I've got a bit of a belly and find the fully front zipped ones much comfier whilst still allowing all important wee breaks!

I've currently got the old DHB Vaeon Roubaix padded tights but need something for the summer.

I see a lot of tri suits are the perfect cut (sleveless isn't really an issue) but are these OK?

Thanks :)

What a rubbish bank holiday weekend weather-wise. Ummed and ahhed about going out yesterday but judging by the sideways rain and massive hailstones staying in was the right choice. I hope next weekend is a bit nicer.

I went out for a short/slow ride yesterday and despite missing the worst weather it definitely didn't feel like the right choice to get out.

I'm going to attempt the ride I failed to do on Friday this Saturday/Sunday. Got some tweaks to make now that I know some of the roads aren't all that nice.

The road surfaces around here as just absolutely shocking. Had to be careful where I was yesterday, as some bits has massive potholes at the side.

Potentially stupid question with an obvious answer :p ...but can the lock ring removal tool can also be used for securing the lock ring with a socket/torque wrench?
Depends on your lockring tool if you can fit it to your torque wrench or not. Personally I've never torqued a lockring with my tool (Lifeline Performance - not even possible to). I do them 'man tight' and have never had one undone. Some of the language used when removing them can be colourful though.
My experience now after a few months of ownership of the Edge 1000 isn't positive - the touch screen especially is a massive step backward imho, it gets triggered by either rain or sweat dripping on I, which often causes it to bring up one of the screen set-up fields and then decides to lock itself so you can't get back to the screen you were on  To stop this you have to lock it yourself and lose the ability to look at different screens during your ride. All the fancy wifi and Bluetooth features you leave turned off to maintain battery life on long rides. Mine was a Christmas present to replace my 800 which had stopped communicating via the USB port, after a ride where it got particularly wet. I see a rather frustrating pattern here.
I'd like to tell you my experience with the 810 has been better... It hasn't, although I've had different problems to yours. Nothing touchscreen related (so that's possibly better) but the device is quite slow and unstable. Mine frequently freezes when loading a course (my only 'solution' is to have less than 10 on the device, it freezes less). It also randomly turns off or freezes in the middle of a ride and I have to soft-reset it or switch back on (no pattern to this but is fairly infrequent, once a month or so). It only communicates with Garmin Connect to auto-upload my rides 30% of the time (manually opening Garmin Connect and then 'pushing' the ride from the 810 fixes this 90% of the time).

Setting some Goals (Premium only) on local segments is another good way! :)

This is a pretty crazy deal. £550 for a solid alu frame, carbon fork, 105 shifters and mechs, fulcrum racing 7 LGs, and SPD-SL pedals and shoes. Quite the looker too...
Great setup for the money, very clean unstated looks too. I like!

One weird thing with my 810... Mine has a current 'feature' which may or may not be user error... Riding along with data screens yet following a course, I'll reach a segment I've got 'followed'/favourite and the screen will change. I stop/back it from the segment screen and it takes me back to the map screen. Nothing I do will take me from the map screen, no swipes and pressing the back arrow 'cancels' the course I'm following. I think it only does this after 2+ hours of riding... ???
