**** The Official Google Nexus 6P Thread ****

I actually can't decide what to do. My S7E has been my daily drive for the past two weeks, and I've only gone back to the 6P for one day of that time. But at the same time I can't bring myself to sell the 6P.

Not buying the S7E in the first place would have made this a lot simpler, lol :D

Assuming you had neither, which one device would you buy to live with for, say, a year? I need to decide if the S7e is really worth £200 more within the next hour or so :)

Although the S7E is a beast, and a fantastic phone, I'd say the 6P. Why? Because it's going to get Android N a lot sooner than the S7E and it's better value for money overall.

That said, if cash and updates are less of a consideration then the S7E. It's the more rounded package with more features (e.g. waterproofing, SD card).

Went to the devil's warehouse this afternoon and had a play with the S7E. For whatever reason I still don't like the curved screen and the regular S7 is a little too small.

Was about to buy a N6P and then for some reason decided that I'd just use my spare LG G4 with CyanogenMod on it for a bit, because its actually a damn good phone.

Just wait until android N comes out and then you will probably have your answer :p ;)

Depends how much of a priority that is to you though, it used to be for me but not really now as I don't think any huge leap forwards are made. I had to wait 6 months for Marshmallow as had an old handset and only just got around to replacing it, really wasn't an issue. Can't see much in N that I just MUST have, though I understand some people just like to have the latest thing (and I understand that)

Yeah I don't think it is as big of a deal these days but still it is the principle of it all in my books, it is a joke that the GS 6 (one of, if not the most popular android handset) is only just starting to get MM in the last few weeks as iirc, not much changed from LL aside from some under the hood improvements for performance etc.

I thought N would be a bit meh at first but it contains a lot of nice UI visual tweaks i.e. multi-tasking, notifications & toggles pane, DPI setting, possibly a dark mode/theme, multi-tasking windows, further improved doze mode, freeform window mode, screen calibration controls and a bunch of other neat things, no doubt more stuff will be added over the course of this testing too as the final release isn't due until September iirc.

Certainly a lot more exciting than MM anyway, although obviously the GS 7 and some other phones already have a number of those things but usually google's take on this stuff is better implemented imo.

I really do hope the rumours of google addressing OEM updates with N are true but given that this was supposed to be addressed to many times before with previous android updates, I won't hold my breath.

Dunno where all these plaudits for great battery life are coming from tbh.

I love everything about my N6P (apart from it being a little too big physically for my liking if I'm honest..) But I'm not getting anything like 4hrs SOT a lot are reporting...more like 2-3max.

I went to bo-bo's last night, and it had hit my trigger of 10% for battery saver mode kicking-in, at just over 2.5hrs... :(

^^
  • How good is your signal on average?
  • Any WiFi usage?
  • Have you tried a factory reset?
  • What are you battery stats like>?

- (2G) signal usually full strength in my house
- WiFi always on (always has been for my usage - Low to Med)
- Only had it a few weeks from new
- according to 'Ampere' app - health = Good (if that's what you meant!)

Well I sold my Nexus 6P, bought a Sony Xperia Z3 and instantly regretted it.

As such, I've bought another 6P. Can I charge the 6P with a bog standard USB-A charger from another device as long as I use a decent cable?

If so, which USB-A to USB-C cable should I go for? Doesn't have to be pretty, just not grenade the phone/charger. Spec away!

/edit

Sorted now, went for an Orzly cable. Seems to get good reviews.

Yup, any half-decent (in that it won't catch fire) is fine providing the cable connecting it has the necessary resister, and as you know now, the Orzly ones are fine. :)

(though I wished they're supplied different length ones rather than different coloured ones in that pack of 4)
